Marco Polo Chinese Cuisine @ Wisma Lim Foo Yong, K.L

Hubby and I had Dim Sum lunch at Marco Polo Chinese Cuisine a few months ago after my facial appointment. That wasn’t our first visit to this long standing Chinese restaurant (read my previous visit HERE), but it was our first time trying their Dim Sum. Although we just had Char Siew Bao and Siew Mai that day, the food was memorably wonderful. So we decided to pay a revisit on last week after my facial, and this round together with a “special guest” – miss Samantha, our daughter (¯ᴗ¯), whose seldom join us for Sunday activity.

There is not much changes on the setting of the restaurant, it’s a very welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, beautifully dressed in soft yellow lighting. Since we just walked in, our dining period was limited to 12.30pm only (we were there at circa 11.10am). So, it would be safer to make a reservation because the restaurant can get pretty full during peak hours.

Marco Polo serves Dim Sum with the old-school way where the servers wheel around the pushcarts piled high with bamboo steamers, and diners just grab what looks good. The use of trolleys certainly is a charming nod to tradition.

Chinese Tea – Tie Guan Yin (RM3.00/pax)

Siew Mai (RM13.80)

Plump morsels of steamed Siew Mai with tasty filling of pork and whole prawn passed all the markings of deliciousness which guarantees satisfaction in every bite.

Chicken Feet in Bean Sauce (RM8.80)

Those fall off the bone “Phoenix Claw” 凤爪 Feng Zhua (a romanticised term for chicken feet) were savoury and umami-rich in flavour. They were fabulously soft with a pleasantly gelatinous texture, undoubtedly one of the best Dim Sum Chicken Feet I’ve tried.

Bean Sheet with Prawns (RM13.80)

Thin and crispy bean curd sheets enveloping bouncy and scrumptious sweet prawns filling, it really blew my socks off.

Minced Pork & Century Egg Porridge (RM9.80)

The porridges silky smooth on texture while flavors were gentle.

We tried Char Siew Bao on our previous visit which also worth a try – fluffy baos encasing sweet char siew filling.

Chef’s Choice BBQ Combo – Siew Yoke & Char Siew (RM55.00)

Hubby was attracted by this BBQ meat platter on table beside us, as a Siew Yoke lover, it didn’t take long to appear on our table as well. ◔_◔

The roasted meat passed with flying colours, from texture to flavour. Achingly crunchy crackling sheathing tender delectable layered meat, simply decadently divine.

The Char Siew given was too fat for our liking, we requested to change a leaner cut and the our request was well accommodated. (^^)b

The barbequed meat was gleaming in a deep mahogany colour, slightly sweet and sticky on the crust, with good dose of smokiness. The meat was adequately tender, with somewhat more fat to meat ration.

Verdict: Consistency is the keyword here, I’m glad to find out that the quality of both the food and service at Marco Polo are well maintained.

  • Kudos to this place which have managed to stay afloat and relevant for 4 decades (since the 80s?). I’ve eaten here a long time ago and remember the experience to be positive. The various dim sum do look very good but prices will be steeper than usual, which is expected-lah from a place of this environment. I like this old-school way of pushing the dim sum cart around for us to pick the dim sum we want. It’s still way better than ordering from a menu as we can see the actual goods and decide…lol.

  • always a good value here, been a long time since we had lunch there with colleagues.
