Dinner Buffet Galore with Durians @ Impiana KLCC Hotel
As a food blogger, I am naturally fascinated by the fact that durian regarded as “King of all Fruits” invokes a lot of disdain from plenty of food writers (mostly Mat Salleh).
The infamous Anthony Bourdain said, “Your breath will smell as if you’ve been french kissing your dead grandmother”.
Richard Sterling, a food writer said, ”It’s odour is best described as pig shit, turpentine and onions garnished with a gym sock”.
You know what? I completely love durian! Majority people of Southeast Asia origins and lately lots of converts from China will certainly agree with me on our peculiar love for durian.
When durian is in-season (typically from June to August), it is hard to miss the on-going durian fever sweeping through most Malaysians. The fever is compounded by the fact many excellent food establishments join the fray in offering durian themed dining.
Tonka Bean Café @ Impiana KLCC has been delighting foodies for many years with its seasonal “Eat As Much As You Want” Durians as part of dinner buffet promotion. The buffet, already an impressive array of local and western food, has been acclaimed to be of high quality and doesn’t skimp on quantity. The other crowd puller is the presence of Baskin Robbins ice-cream!
August 2017 marks the return of the Dinner Buffet Galore with durians! Available on Friday and Saturday for the whole month of August from 6.30pm to 10.30pm, treat yourself to this special buffet spread with endless bounty of the King of Fruits!

Tonka Bean Cafe & Deli nestled on ground floor of Impiana KLCC Hotel (same floor with hotel lobby) boasts a stylish and contemporary interior with unique ceiling design paired with ambient lighting. The restaurant is framed by earthy tone furniture and the dining area definitely has the feel of spaciousness with adequate room between tables. The al-fresco dining area offers a magnificent view of the Petronas Twin Towers while you enjoying a sumptuous and delightful meal.

Begin with appetiser stations of Ulam-ulam with assorted sambal, salads and kerabu, combining colourful ingredients that open up your appetite.

Fresh seafood on ice is a sight to behold!

Smoked duck breast & cold cuts.

Sashimi & Maki.

Head for the hot buffet warmers and tuck into dishes such as Black Pepper Beef, Fried Fish with Thai Sauce, Butter Chicken, Lamb Varuval, Udang Masak Lemak and Gulai Daging. Of all, I enjoyed the Lamb Varuval the most. Soft and tender bite size lamb richly infused with spices and laced with mild heat, went great with white rice, needless to say. Vegetarian dishes of Fried Cabbage and Fried Mushroom were well executed too.

Roasted lamb and vegetables, no reason for not trying out 😛

There are several live action stations whereby the chefs will be dishing out yummy food such as grilled seafood and meat with assorted of sauces, pasta as well as Bihun Sup Utara.

Choose your meat/seafood and let the expert do the cooking.

Pasta station

The dessert selection is inspired to please every palate, varieties of Kuih-muih, cakes, pies and puddings are all ready for you to indulge in!

Look at this beautiful Bread Pudding, it’s going to be hard to not lose one’s control over sweets!

Chocolate Fountain with fruits and marshmallows never fails to be a crowd pleaser for everyone of all ages.

The fruit section loaded with good selection of colourful fruits. However I needed to save my tummy for the hightlight of the buffet. *grin evilly

A small Durian stall being set up at the al-fresco dining area overlooking the busy Jalan Pinang. Imagine indulging in the King of Fruits with the gorgeous view of our iconic Petronas Twin Towers, yes, I did and it’s an experience not to be missed!

Plump, fleshy and fragrant, abang tolong buka satu Durian lagi! (One more Durian please!) LOL

The satiated faces of us, hehe 😛 Our 2017 first Durian!

Don’t forget to get your Baskin Robin ice-cream fix as well, a perfect ending to my wonderful dinner. Burps….

wow….so nice of this hotel to serve durian!!
I have not eaten any durian this year…so sad le…
This year’s fruit is so limited and so expensive 🙁
Melissa, exactly! Durian nowadays are so expensive, for branded one, 2 Durians can costed up to one hundred plus!
I haven’t had any durian yet this year 🙁 🙁 🙁 If I were at the buffet, I save all stomach space for the durian hee..hee..hee…
PH, initially I thought like you too but when I saw the food in buffet spread, I can’t resist but still controlled a bit to save room for my favourite Durian 😛
I was shocked when I read the title…coz some hotels even ban durians as the smell may linger in the hotel for other non-durian hotel guests (like me)! O_o Ahh, the stall was set up outside, I see.
EWEW, yes, the durian stall is at the al-fresco area of the restaurant.
Wahhh! Definitely not often we see durian offered and promoted in its original form like this – sounds like something that durian fans may be interested in checking out! 😉
Sean, actually durian offered in buffet not new in our F&B scene, this trend started a few years ago during Ramadhan buffet 🙂
This is truly amazing that a hotel serves durian in KL!!!!
TM, actually Durian serves in hotel buffet not really a new trend, I’ve seen a few hotels’ Ramadhan buffet offered Durian for the diners. 😛
