Fook Yin Lau @ DA Square, Bandar Sri Damansara, K.L
This was our Christmas Day breakfast. Our initial plan to visit THIS PLACE was postponed because hubby was under the weather since Tuesday night.
We had Dim Sum, one of my family’s favourite breakfasts and instead of our frequented restaurants (THIS & THIS), we tried out new place which is located not far from our home.
Fook Yin Lau is located on first floor of Damansara Avenue Square (DA Square) which we always visit for its Uniqlo (Malaysia’s first roadside store) and The Brew House. But this Chinese restaurant that nestled in the same Square somehow had been escaped from our radar until just yesterday, I’m glad we finally gave it a try.
The dining area is spacious, airy and receives ample of natural light from the large window panels. Service was attentive with our hot teas were constantly refilled.
The Dim Sum selection isn’t exceptionally extensive but it hits many essentials. There are special discounts on some of the items (10-30%, indicated with stickers of different colours).
Dishes are labeled clearly with icons to accommodate customers with food allergies and dietary restrictions. d(^ー^)
Chinese Tea (RM2.50/pax)
Siew Mai (RM10.80 – 10%)
The pork and shrimp filling was plump, bouncy and well flavoured, it proved to be decent and passed with all the markings of a respectable Siew Mai.
Har Gao (RM10.80)
Inside the thin crystal skin was the sweet cubes of prawn filling that certainly guarantees satisfaction in every bite.
Steamed Rice Roll with Youtiao (RM6.80)
This was the only dish that wasn’t up to much. The rice roll was smooth but the Youtiao was rancid and lost the crunchiness that I was expecting. I appreciated the soy sauce was served separately nonetheless.
Steamed Chicken Feet (RM6.80)
Braised till fall-off-the-bones, the chicken feet were soft but the gravy was too starchy for my liking.
Glutinous Rice with Chicken (RM7.80 – 20%)
Despite the special discount, the restaurant didn’t compromise on the food quality. The Loh Mai Kai was crowned with generous portion of chicken, pork and Chinese waxed sausage (Lap Cheong). The glutinous rice was moist with a robust flavour.
Fried Spring Rolls (RM7.80 – 30%)
Made with three types of julliened root vegetables as the name suggested “三不见天”炸春卷, there were taro (yam), jicama and carrot wrapped in the pipping hot fried spring roll. I loved that satisfying and audible crunch on every bite. (☆ω☆*)
Deep Fried Shrimp Bean Curd Roll (RM10.80)
Also freshly fried, the utterly crispy bean curd sheet was filled with savoury and succulent diced sweet prawn, another drool worthy on my dim sum list.
Hedgehog Steamed Lotus Buns (RM10.80 – 30%)
For the sake of photography, hubby got me this very Instagrammable hedgehog buns even though non of us are fan of lotus bun. >_< The lotus paste was rich and creamy but slightly on sweet side, luckily the savouriness of the salted egg yolk balanced out the overall flavour.
Verdict: Pretty good on all counts and we really enjoyed my Dim Sum session at Fook Yin Lau, will definitely come back to try out the remainder of the menu.

Actually, based on the interior with cloth-wrapped chairs (like wedding halls), I thought the prices would be steep but (as it turned out) rather decent I might add. I had a little chuckle when you commented that your hubby got you the instagrammable hedgehog buns (so sweet of him)…lol! 😀
Kris, I was surprised with the wallet friendly price too! Hubby know my “hobby” as a food blogger, so he always try to order more aesthetically looking dishes. 😛
Sorry, before I forget again, belated wishes for a wonderful & cheery Christmas and happy holidays to you and your family! 😉
Kris, same to you!
