Hoho Farmstay @ hoho fruit.vege park, Batang Kali, Selangor

This is the family staycation that I mentioned HERE.

Location: Hoho Farmstay @ Batang Kali, Selangor.

Occasion: Family gathering cum mom’s early birthday celebration.

How to book: Via airbnb.

I discovered this homestay when I got their name card from Kebun Cafe, which is under the same management. It intrigued my interest and immediately I proposed to my siblings that we should plan a short staycation here as the house is perfect to accommodate our group of 15 members. After two days of discussion and set a date that suits everyone, we finally made it here for our 2D1N family staycation on 2nd April 2022!

Photo from their airbnb listing

Hoho Farmstay is a single storey house located in Hoho fruit & vege park with 4 bedrooms furnished with 8 beds that can accommodate up to 16 guests.

Check in procedure was smooth and fast, the host even allowed us to put the birthday cake as well as our frozen food into the house first before the check in time. All correspondence with the host was done via WhatsApp and she is a nice lady and very responsive too.

As you can see in the above photo of the overall view of the living area which isn’t “fully covered” by wall like our usual house but with lattice fencing as well as brick wall with ventilation holes. Further to the backyard area also an open area directly towards the deck completed with blind curtains. It’s certainly a sun-blessed space with lots of natural light beaming through, however there’s disadvantages too, such as lack of privacy, lingering smell of the compost and the unwanted guests like mosquitoes and small insects. But all these didn’t really affect our mood and the overall experience of the stay. ヾ(^ ^ゞ

The interior of Hoho Farmstay is simple but functional, and the setting exudes a cozy homey feel. The living room is furnished with rustic rattan chairs, TV, decorative ornaments were placed sparingly and potted tropical plant to add the liveness to the ambience. The living area isn’t equipped with air conditioner but the comfort level was covered with sufficient ceiling fans, wall fan and standing fan.

The long sturdy wooden table and chairs, as well as a small table at the dining area.

The kitchen is well completed with refrigerator, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, colander, water filter, knifes, chopping board, teapot, steamboat pot, basic cooking ingredients of cooking oil, salt, sugar, soy sauce and pepper as well as electrical kettle.

The stove and BBQ pit with BBQ skewers, charcoals and fire starters were provided.

The host also prepared us a big pot of vegetables stock (on the stove in above photo) and a few types of vegetables from their farm for our steamboat dinner. The thoughtful gesture definitely earned some brownie points for the hospitality.

There are 4 rooms and they were adequate comfortable with minimalist design, furnished with queen bed(s) and each bed is completed with mosquito net. The rooms are equipped with both wall fan and air conditioner, hair dryer and towels.

Only two rooms are appointed with bathroom and there is another bathroom near the dining area. Water heater, shower gel and shampoo were provided.

Board games and Mahjong are available too.

The wooden deck at the back of the house is built on a lake, overlooking the lush greenery. It is surrounded by garden landscape, the deck is the perfect spot to immerse yourself in nature, relax in harmony, and enjoy the moment in which you can unplug from everyday life.

We brought tonne of food but of course we couldn’t finish all. (´∀`)

Snack is a must!

It’s boozy time! (* ̄0 ̄*)ノ口

A custom made cake for mom’s 68yo birthday – it’s a money pulling cake!

Our morning walk at the farm with beds of crops and variety of flowers and trees.

The host raise honeybees too!

♥Verdict: Overall, it was a pleasant stay at Hoho Farmstay which is ideal for a quick getaway not too far from KL with family or big group of friends. Location wise, Ulu Yam town is merely a few minutes drive and there are convenient stores such as 99 Speedmart and KK Mart to get whatever you need. The nearest restaurant (steamboat) is located at the entrance of that residential area.

Pros: Responsive host and good hospitality. The house is well maintained, clean and the kitchen is well stocked with all cooking necessities.

Cons: Some parts of the deck need to repair as it might endanger the kids when they are playing there. Quite a lot of mosquitoes during the evening, I would suggest the host can prepare some mosquito coils for the guests. (We bought ours at the town). But we had a good sleep without the disturbance from the mosquitoes, perhaps they need to rest too during night time? ◔_◔ The odour from the compost pile at the end of the farm can be quite an issue too.

  • What a nice getaway! The house look very comfortable and the beds covered with mosquito netting reminded me of my childhood days (at the old hospital government quarters where we used mosquito nets) and also my days at the residential school in Terenganu. Without the mosquito net, it would be impossible to sleep! Wah, I like your mum’s birthday cake. Maybe can try to buy those four digits on her cake and see whether can kena strike of not LOL!

    • PH, I don’t think I used mosquito netting during my childhood time, but mosquito coils definitely yes, hehe 😛
Saw so many money pulling cake videos on internet and it’s certainly very excited to see my mom pulled out the money notes from the cake! Since she always says no need buy any present, just give Ang Pow (aka money), she’ll be happy.
Those numbers are car plate number of ours. ^__^

  • Wah, your steamboat dinner is like a major feast! Two things I fear most….mosquitoes (disturbing my sleep) and some kind of odour. I once stayed in a hotel (for my treasure hunt outing) and there was a musky odour (from the hotel and some say nearby chicken farms) was an issue too.

    • Kris, steamboat + BBQ = feast for the King! LOL
Actually the odour had subsided after we on the big standing fan, but my sis said we already used to it, so couldn’t smell it anymore, haha!

  • I do need a holiday like this.. steamboat plsss
