Kafe Yik Mun @ Hartamas Shopping Center
My sis was attracted by the Hainanese Chicken Chop from this place and “jio” me to join her visit to Kafe Yik Mun nestled in Hartamas Shopping Center.
Located on ground floor of this neighbourhood shopping mall, right beside the Mercato supermarket, the setting of Kafe Yik Mun was simple and the dining area wasn’t really big.
The menu offered variety of rice and noodles dishes such as Sambal Udang Fried Rice (RM22), Nasi Lemak (RM16), Wanton Noodles (RM16), Meehoon Hainan (RM16), Cantonese Braised Rice (RM16), Asam Laksa (RM16) and many more. Apart from these, there were toasts, Chicken Chop (RM22), Chee Cheong Fun (RM10), Glutinous Rice with Chicken (RM10) as well as their star product of steamed buns (curry chicken, curry beef, red bean & Kaya – RM4).
Hainan White Coffee (RM6.00) & Chia Seeds Sirap (RM9.00)
The price of the beverages was on the high side, with mostly priced at RM9.00 for cold drinks (even for simple drinks like Air Bandung, Lemon Tea, Barley & etc).
Chicken Chop (RM22.00)
Accompanied by toasts and simple salad, the dressing of their signature Hainanese Chicken Chop was suspectedly in an unusual orangey hue. It tasted different with the usual savoury brown sauce for Hainanese Chicken Chop with a pleasant buttery note. The chicken was fried to a nice crunchy finish, however the batter was a whisker too thick.
Curry Mee (RM16.00)
The noodles came in a huge portion and with a crimson red hue. The broth was thick and channeled a tongue-tingling spiciness. It tasted predominantly of curry powder and spices which I’m not really fond of. There were curry chicken, fish ball, bean curd sheet and bean curd puffs in it.
Tom Yam Noodles (RM16.00)
Another big bowl of noodles that studded with generous portion of prawns, chicken slices, tomatoes and onions. The broth was rich in spiciness, sourness while robust with hint of herbs and spices and finished of with a creamy edge.
Beef Noodles (RM16.00)
It’s Hainanese style beef noodles as per described in their menu. It came with raw beef slices, beef balls and plenty of vegetables. The broth was infused with robust taste of herbs and spices. Seem like they don’t skimp on the ingredients for broth for their soupy noodles. (´∀`)
Verdict: Food was just average for me, it did not hit us with huge surprise. But the Hainanese Chicken Chop was praise worthy and had all of us nodding away in agreement. My sis also bought their Kaya Bao which turned out to be quite decent and her daughter like it.

At least the Hainanese Chicken Chop was above average. So it was worth trying out this cafe.
PH, i think it’s too much gravy for your carnivore diet. 😛
My all-time favourite Hainanese chicken chop is still the one from Yut Kee. Ah, I see we have similar tastebuds when it comes to curry, we don’t like those with strong flavours of curry powder and spices. From the photos, the food here seems very robust in flavours.
Kris, I only tried once the food of Yut Kee and it didn’t impress me much though. I don’t like the “powdery feeling” when I have curry. >_<
That tomyam noodle looks really inviting.
KY, if you like thick & spicy broth, this one is for you!
