Kedai Kopi Keow Keow @ Kepong Ulu
I have been trying a couple of eateries in Kampung Kepong Ulu (THIS & THIS) for the past few months and seem like this little village has more to offer than what I’ve expected.
As a Pan Mee fanatic, I am constantly looking for places that serve Pan Mee that meet my requirements. So when I stumbled upon a Pan Mee recommendation from Xiao Hong Shu, it was added to my to-try list and here I am!
Located on the same row with Fat Mum Curry Mee, Kedai Kopi Keow Keow with a rather shabby facade and the interior was typical local Kopitiam setting. The Pan Mee was the main vendor here and there’s another stall selling economy fried noodles and Tong Sui.
The place was brimming with a robust Sunday breakfast crowd and the lady boss not only busy with the ordering, receiving payment and also the cooking station. You might need a little patient for ordering and food if you’re planning a visit here. (-β-;)
Hot Coffee (RM2.50)
Half Boiled Egg (RM3.00/2 eggs)
Not really asked for menu or recommendations from the lady boss but there were several food photos on the wall as reference on what are they offering. There were Pan Mee in various soup (clear soup, Mala, curry, Loh), as well as dry Pan Mee. They also serve Wonton Mee and Yee Mee.
Thick and thin Pan Mee.
Pan Mee (RM7.50)
I opted for the classic Pan Mee in clear soup, with thick noodles. It was topped with the essential condiments of crunchy fried anchovies, minced meat, meat slices, sliced Shiitake mushrooms, vegetables, (could have been better if cooked with Sayur Manis/Pucuk Manis) and completed with fried onion and fried pork lard. Oh ya, there were meat ball and fried bean curd sheet too. The broth was rather welcoming on the palate, suitably flavourful from the meat bones and anchovies, but wasn’t entirely amazing too.
The Pan Mee was cooked to my preference – chewy and al-dente.
Loh Pan Mee (RM8.50)
The thick eggy broth was nothing out of ordinary.
Verdict: Considering the Pan Mee was fairly mediocre, so I will say that it’s not one that I would come back again. Actually there’s a rather awesome Pan Mee shop in Kepong that I tried a few months ago, but no photo was taken that day. So perhaps I’ll pay a visit again and share with you guys next time! Or do you have any Pan Mee to recommend? Preferably in Kepong or PJ area, hehe π

I am not really a fan of pan mee. though I used to love the one at Go Noodle House. Too bad the pan mee did not meet with your expectations.
PH, I had Pan Mee at Go Noodle House and I thought it was rather decent for my standard.
Good post
ALice, thank you. π
ALice, thank you for your compliment and do drop by more often for reviews!
I’m also not a fan of pan mee….that’s why you don’t or hardly see it in my blog…lol! π I find myself looking at the crispy pork lard in your loh pan mee.
Kris, those are really good stuff!
