Kepong Dim Sum 甲洞点心楼 @ Laman Rimbunan, Kepong
I was pretty delighted with the opening of a new Dim Sum restaurant at my area, it’s always good to have more options after all.
Situated at Laman Rimbunan, the green facade of Kepong Dim Sum that facing the main road (Jalan Kepong) indeed quite eye catching. The restaurant occupies two floors (photo above is ground floor), with “powerful” air conditioners and seating were well arranged with ample of spacing in between.
Chinese Tea (Tit Kuan Yin – RM3.00/2pax, RM1.00/pax for additional)
As you can see the menu photos above, the choices weren’t extensive even the common Loh Mai Gai (steamed glutinous rice with chicken) and egg tarts were not available.
Gojiberry Siew Mai (RM7.00)
Decent, nothing to shout about on the flavour.
Har Gao (RM7.50)
Adequately filled with diced prawns however the skin was a tad too thick.
Char Siew Bao (RM7.00)
Fluffy with sweet savoury BBQ pork filling, but…… it tasted exactly like those frozen buns I bought from the shops. (´∀`)
Century Egg & Meat Congee (RM6.00)
Steamed Pork Ribs (RM7.00)
Both were competent but did not mind blowing.
Pan Fried Radish Cakes (RM7.00)
Nice crusty outer and I like the soft creamy inner.
Signature Cheong Fun (RM12.00)
An elevated version of “Zha Liong (Cantonese)” or “Zha Liang (Mandarin)” – a Dim Sum dish consisting of crispy You Tiao wrapped inside rice noodles.
Instead of You Tiao, Vietnamese rice paper contributed the crispy element in this rendition. Rounded out with prawns, spinach and carrot for extra textures and flavours. A pleasing dish nonetheless.
Otak-Otak Roll (RM10.00)
This wasn’t in their menu but a special dish of that day. It was made of bean curd sheet with Otak-Otak and crab filament stick filling. A bit oily and the flavour was monochromatic, I only tasted spiciness in it.
Verdict: Food here was less exciting and the choices were limited. Seem like I still have to stick to our old Dim Sum places (THIS & THIS) for a little while…… 囧

Dimsum gets quite expensive to eat properly full these days kan
KY, yeah totally agree!
Oh dear, too bad not up to mark.
PH, never try never know, right? ^__^
I was just about to say I’ve not seen such vibrant colours for a dim sum place before you mentioned that the colour was rather eye-catching. ^_~ I wonder how the Vietnamese rice paper can stay crispy inside a steamed chee cheong fun roll. The pan fried radish looks the best of the lot. I wouldn’t be able to tell if a char siew pau tasted like a frozen one (so frozen char siew pau can be good too)….lol.
Kris, good question, how the Vietnamese rice paper can stay crispy which I didn’t think about it when i was eating the dish, LOL.
Some frozen Dim Sum really taste not bad, have you tried any?
