Mak’s Chee Authentic Wonton @ One Utama
Mak’s Chee, the brand new restaurant that cooks up near 100 years old authentic prawn wonton noodle recipe made famous by Guangzhou’s King of Wonton Noodle, Mak Woon Chee is now open at One Utama.

Malaysia can now enjoy the signature Mak’s Chee wonton noodle prepared under guidance of Michelin Chef Johnny Yu who is also the first grandchild-in-law of Mak Woon Chee. With more than 40 years of experience and distinctive skills in wonton making, Chef Johnny Yu directed food preparation for most of the family brands. 2016 marks a special and exciting year for him as he introduces his family recipe to Malaysia.

Sea Prawn Wonton Noodle Soup (RM 12.90)
Also known as ‘Sai Yong’ (细蓉), served in a rather petite bowl. The clear broth so robust and full of flavors as it is slow cooked by using dried halibut, pork bones, prawn roes, etc. The sprinkles of yellow chives add a pleasant fragrance to the soup too.

As for the noodle, it is thinner if compared to what we usually have in Malaysia. Made by using duck eggs and quality flour, the noodles not only have a delightful egg-y flavors, the slightly “crunchy” texture is something I enjoyed immensely.

To carry on the cooking tradition, the wonton is always put underneath the noodles. Came with 4 wontons made from fresh sea prawns with dried prawn roes seasoning wrapped in super thin wonton skin in unique “goldfish tail” shape. One bite and I’m sold! The sweetness of the prawns apparent with convincing texture and I can’t find in normal wonton with pork and prawn filling.

The setting of the Mak’s Chee is simple with some special details thrown in here and there such as lattice structure on the wall, bare bricks wall as well as framed photos of the history of the brand.
Other items in the menu such as noodle with braised beef tendon and brisket, noodle with dried prawn roe, deep fried wonton and Sui Kaw are worth trying too.

Verdict: Price is on higher side for a small bowl of wonton noodle but it commensurate with the quality of the food. Don’t take my word for it, try it yourself and tell me whether it’s penny-worthy or not 🙂

虽然没试过,不过他的feedback很“高潮迭起”呢
我只能说口味是很个人的, 哈哈!
This looks very similar to the type of noodles I had at Starz Kitchen in Pavilion which I didn’t quite like (coz of the kansui taste in the noodles) but I did love the wantons. Hope this noodle is better tasting. I do think prices are a bit high due to the small portions but, at least, Mak Chee’s noodle portion seems bigger than Starz Kitchen’s.
I didn’t taste any alkaline taste in my noodle, maybe u can give this a try and let me know what do you think!
The noodles sound really fabulous – broth boiled with so many ingredients and crunchy noodles made with duck eggs <3<3
Yes, definitely not your usual wonton mee 😛
The pic of everyone blurred out is a bit creepy :X
Privacy issue lah & you’ve mentioned this in my previous post 🙁
I never bothered to blurr anyone’s face all my blogging years as I am too lazy. If they come make noise, then I will delete them. LOL
