Menya Hanabi @ Plaza Arkadia, Desa Park City
When dine in was still allowed…….
MCO, NPR Phase 1, EMCO, NPR Phase 1 again, it seems like a never ending cycle…. 凸-_-凸
Menya Hanabi, I’ve heard about this ramen restaurant from my friends and watched videos of the Youtuber that I’m following, regarding its specialty Mazesoba, a type of soupless Ramen that originated in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. It doesn’t ignite my interest because what I like about Japanese ramen is the thick, robust and flavourful soup, Maze-Soba to me is like Ramen without the soul (no fault here but it’s just my own preference).
The restaurant was bustling on that weekend afternoon and there were a few patrons at the waiting area outside the restaurant (on the walkway). I’m not sure about the normal days (which seem like very long time ago ~>_<~), I assumed the queue was caused by the dine in SOP and the limitation on the capacity of the seating.
The setting of the restaurant was simple and straightforward. The main dining area was placed with square wooden tables and stools. Further in was occupied by an open kitchen cum bar seating.
The menu featuring their specialty soup-less ramen with a few options with different toppings and flavours such as minced meat, pork Cha Siu, curry flavour and Tan Tan flavour. They also served soup Ramen, Donburi and assorted appetizers and snacks.
Soup Ramen – Shoyu (RM27.00)
Portion was markedly smaller than those we had at other places and the Cha Siu also rather small in size. Other than Cha Siu, there were a perfectly cooked ajitama, nori sheets and minced raw onion. The broth was adequately robust and not too thick, for those who doesn’t like their Ramen soup too cloying thick/oily, this might be your good choice.
Springy thin noodles.
Nagoya Ramen (RM29.00)
If you prefer spicy soup ramen, there were Nagoya Ramen and Tan Tan Ramen in the menu. Topped with spicy Nagoya mince, a piece of Cha Siu, thinly sliced spring onion, Nori sheets and chopped chives. The spicy Nagoya mince contributed a gentle heat to the broth which was convincingly moreish and addictive. However, I didn’t really adore the presence of chives here which a bit tainted the flavour of the pork broth
Nagoya Mazesoba (Small – RM22.00)
It would be travesty to come here and not order their signature Nagoya Mazesoba, right? It’s a colourful bowl of thick Ramen crowned with raw egg yolk, Nagoya mince, sliced spring onion, chopped chives, shredded Nori, minced garlic and seasoning powder.
There were instruction notes on the walls to show you how to enjoy your Mazesoba. Stir everything and mix well, add in some of their homemade kelp vinegar to taste. The concept and ensemble was closely resemble our local dry Panmee. I must admit the whole combination worked well enough to leave a positive impression, from the al-dente springy thick noodles to the assorted ingredients that supplying a bevy of invigorating of flavours. My one monor gripe was the chives (yes, again >_<), the portion was just too a bit overpowering.
Still not satisfied after the noodles? You may request for a scoop of rice to finish off the remaining sauce.
♥Verdict: Safe to say that, Menya Hanabi’s Mazesoba worth a try if you’re skeptical like me. But I can’t say the same to the soup Ramen, we’ve had a better ones elsewhere.

I don’t think I’ve had a bowl of ramen soup with chopped raw onions in them before….and neither have I had it dry style either. I thought the leftover sauce with the rice looked more appetising…lol.
Kris, since you never have both, you can try it! Actually the sauce mixture went rather well with both rice and noodles.
I miss eating ramen. 😀
Tekkaus, I miss eating Ramen in restaurant ~>_<~
