Mexican Fiesta @ InterContinental Kuala Lumpur

Hola, Como estas! (Hello How are you in Mexican). Do you fancy Mexican food? Mexican cuisine is famous for its distinctive ingredients, rich heritage and incredible diversity. In 2010, the UNESCO committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Culture Heritage inscribed Mexican Cuisine on the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Assorted chilies used in preparation of Mexican cuisine from mild to lethal fiery named Habanero, Pobalno, Serrano, Manzano and etc.
From 1 – 15th April 2013, InterContinental Kuala Lumpur together with KLM and the Embassy of Mexico in Malaysia is proudly to present you a Mexican Fiesta by bringing in two extraordinary Mexican Chefs from Presidente InterContinental Mexico to cook up an authentic Mexican Feast.

Guacamole con Totopos (Avocado Dip with Tortilla Chips)

Ensalada de Nopales (Cactus Salad)
I’m so surprise that cactus is edible! Having a slimy texture (think aloe vera) and slightly crunchy, dressed in red wine vinegar.

The making of quesadillas

Quesadillas y Tortillas Calientes (Corn tortillas and tortillas with different fillings)
Come with 2 filling of beef and corn fungus (the blackish filling of tortillas in my photo). Yikes, corn fungus, are you kidding me? Also known as corn smut or huitlacoche is eaten in Mexico, usually as a filling, in quesadillas and other tortilla-based foods, and soups. The taste of the corn fungus is mild with subtle earthy flavor, so don’t be frighten by its scary blackish colour, it’s not as terrible as you think!

Roasted Beef with Assorted Vegetables
This is perfectly grilled with beautiful pinkish center.

Condiments for the roasted beef.

Camarones al Pasilla y Guayaba (Shrimps in Chili Guava Sauce)

Fish Veracrus Style

Grilled Flank Steak

Lamb Wrapped in Banana Leaves

Pulled Chicken and Mashed Potato Mini Burger

Chicken in Poblano, Chocolate Chile Ancho Sauce

Mexican Rice
For more substantial, there are Mexican rice too in the buffet spread.
There are small selection of Mexican Candy and desserts too but some are too sweet for my liking.

Mexican Candies

Mexican Candies

Corn Tart
The tart skin was soft with filling of cream and sweet corn.

Churros
Taste great when dip with chocolate syrup, sinfully delicious!

Sangria and Watermelon juice

Ended my meal with Margarita, a type of Mexican cocktail consisting of tequila mixed with Cointreau or similar orange-flavoured liqueur and lime or lemon juice.
There are spread from the International Buffet too other than the Mexico cuisine which include local delicacies such as satay, noodle, fresh seafood, salad and sushi.
