Original Loh Mee @ Hock Choon Kee, Ulu Yam Lama
Go to Ulu Yam and not trying the famous lor mee would be sacrilegious, so before heading to Hutan Lipur Sungai Sendat, we stopped by Hock Choon Kee Coffee Shop & Restaurant for lunch. Try to Google and the search results will be aplenty for lor me recommendations at this area but since Hock Choon Kee claimed that they are the founder of lor mee and the home made noodle definitely the attracting point!
Nestled in the village, the facade of Hock Choon Kee might looks slightly shabby but the food outshine the environment by miles!
Typical kopitiam setting, seats available for both indoor and outdoor & equipped with a few ceiling fans to ensure the patrons can dine in comfortably.
Iced Chinese tea is a must when dining at non air-conditioned restaurant :-]
Lor Mee
Appeared in extremely dark colour, the hand made noodle was fabulously springy with al-dente texture which I really like. No alkaline taste was detected too in the noodle which very common in most of the yellow thick noodle aka “dai loke mien”. The thick broth, despite the dark hue, it didn’t have overpowering acidic taste of vinegar. For those who prefer stronger taste, vinegar and sambal is provided too. I hardly categorized to be a lor mee lover but I find myself slurping this happily.
Hokkien Mee
The Hokkien mee version was equally tantalizing too! The thick strands of noodles were well braised in dark aromatic soy sauce laden with the essential pork lard. Really can’t resist this, oh my here gone my diet plan again ~>_<~
Fried Fish Cake & Fu Chuk
Pipping hot! Bouncy yet compact texture of the fish cake and the extremely crunchy fried bean curd sheet roll, definitely an indulgence worthy of every calories it packed!
Verdict: I was largely contented with my meal here at Hock Choon Kee, revisit definitely is a must!

Love Ulu Yam loh mee as the noodles they use are different from the ones in Klang Valley.
All shops at Ulu Yam serve handmade noodle?
We are the main supplier , @ No7 Jalan Besar Hulu Yam Lama ,can buy some back here .
Thank you.
Next time when you are there try “Shang Kee” they might be better as from my point of view & also local ,The above mentioned is the Pioneer ,don’t forget that was forty year back, the founder is dead for many moon & at that time, only the only one haha, today there is more than ten shop selling it,almost all are the same is just the Taste that you like it or not.

I think Ulu Yam is quite far for you right, wakaka!
Their service are suck.. I ordered Loh mer end up come hokkien mee.. The lady boss write wrong order, no explanation at all.. Saw few tables ady finish their lor mee since I step in but wait around half hour for their hokkien mee.. Definitely won’t come anymore.. So slow, sat there so long time but the table bside no clean after they left since I come in till I left.. What service is this??
Just have my dinner there.
My first and the last visit as the shop is very dirty and the food is not nice =.=
So sorry to hear about your experience. The hygiene level might be lower at a restaurant with kopitiam setting like that but the taste of the food is quite subjective.
The shop is dirty and the service is bad. Moreover the food isn’t that great and there is even a dead fly in my noodles. I will never visit that shop again.
The restaurant operating hours is?
Sorry I’m not sure about the operating hours, maybe you can try to call the contact I’ve attached?
After 1 hour waiting…. the noodle tasted over cooked with burning smell. Won’t recomend
My commend won’t be publish???? Not wonder got con for this
I used to go there and eat Lor Mee & Hokkien Mee (hubby’s hometown). The first time I tried the lor mee, I fall in love with it. I have tried lor mee in many other places but I have not find any that can match (including Shang Kee), just not the way I like it. During holiday, there are many customers, so you anticipate to wait for a long time. Cleanliness of the shop is definitely a problem; a typical well established old ‘kopitiam’ in Malaysia. I normally bring my container for take away. Now, I am in Australia, once I managed to eat lor mee, taste toally different. Looking at the pictures, bringing many good memories and my saliva start drooling. Thanks Choi Yen for the nice pics and comment. Cheers!
Seek for kopitiam Operation hours?
Service very bad
Place is dirty
Their boss also no manners
Bad attitude
Food nice also no point
Prefer go other place to eat
HCK is probably one of those left whom d cook is original. Current owner is d grandson of d man who created this dish and made d noodles himself. Their taste didnt change much albeit lesser ingredients. Some others put in fish cake slices which is just not right. If u expect a cleaner , modern shop then go for d newer ones as they may appeal to some. HCK is a shop that u go if u want d original taste v d old kopitiam feel . Service is slow , non aircond and not sexy. Other than that, another shop Jin Ho Chiak offers more variety, aircond but d loh mee so so. It all depends what u looking for. Nothing beats d original one despite tasted all d others in Ulu Yam/Batang Kali.
