Pan & Tamper @ Solaris Dutamas

My birthday gathering with my ‘Makan Kaki’ gang took place at Pan & Tamper nestled at Solaris Dutamas. Barely 4 months old during my visit, this place already garnered quite a name for serving up some promising yet photogenic dishes.

The cafe interior is not decorated with a huge deal flair but it exudes a pleasing relaxed vibe. Completed with Scandinavian style furniture, wooden flooring, framed big glass windows, white brick walls as well as the ambient lighting, making it a feel-good place to dine in. Both indoor and al-fresco seats are available but this place might not too accommodating for large group, do call for reservation to avoid disappointment.

Cave Man Breakfast (RM28.00)

My order of Pan & Tamper’s version of big breakfast was served in a skillet with chicken ham, chicken sausage, sauteed onion, baby spinach, baked cannellini beans, fried rosti, egg of your choice (scrambled, sunny-side-up or poached) and wholemeal toast. It was indeed a very satisfying portion. (might be too much for some I guess). I love the well executed standard items such sausage and ham as well as unusual components of sauteed onion, baby spinach and baked cannellini beans. Certainly one of the best big breakfast platter that I’ve ever tried.

Bake Your Egg- UNO (RM28.00)

Chicken meat balls, peppers, spinach and assorted beans submerged in a comforting tomato base gravy. Completed the dish are toasted almond, a dollop of yogurt , their signature 63°C egg and wholemeal toast.

I’m a Fun-Ghi (RM28.00)

Potato rosti disc sitting on bed of sauteed wild mushrooms with thyme and spinach. (Yes, 3 dishes above using the same sauteed spinach). Flavors wise, light with hint of herbaceous, the 63°C egg moisten up the overall bite perfectly. There were also fried shimeji mushroom and almond flakes for that extra crunchy factor. My minor gripe is the hefty price tag for a vegetarian dish with such portion.

Pumpkin Pasta with 63°C Egg (RM 26.00)

Pasta with chicken meat balls dressed in sage pumpkin sauce was a bit too sweet for my liking, I still prefer savory taste for my pasta dish. The curry leaves, sunflower seeds and almond flakes added a surprise elements to it.

Lamb Burger (RM 32.00)

This was chef’s special dish that day, a tall stack of house made lamb patty, slaw of red cabbage, sauteed onion with peppery brown sauce. The lamb patty was adequately seasoned with natural “gamey” taste remained. Served along with potato wedges.

Lychee Watermelon Cheesecake (RM 16.00)

The watermelon and lychee provided refreshing fruity note which neutralized the richness of the cheesecake.

Verdict: Food was above average but the price range not really wallet friendly.
