Restaurant LauEr Durian Farm 老二榴莲芭餐馆 @ Semenyih

A gather-together lunch/dinner is a must whenever my little brother comes back from his work at Singapore for holiday.

This round lunch venue was suggested by him, Restaurant LauEr Durian Farm which was located on the outskirts of Selangor, at Semenyih to be precise.

We drove through a 7-8 minutes of bumpy road surrounded by trees and bushes after turned in from the main road. Don’t miss the junction leading to the restaurant, with a signboard like the photo shown above.

Parking space in front of the restaurant.

Dining area with a rather shabby setting. The restaurant is built amongst a mini farm with fruit trees, vegetables and chicken coops.

The mini farm and the free range chickens.

It’s almost end of the Durian season, hence not much options during our visit.

Steamed Free Range Chicken (RM100.00/bird – Advance booking is needed)

I was caught off guard when my brother told me the price of this dish. ⊙▂⊙

It was good but perhaps the exorbitant price charged was a bit unreasonably. The chicken (free range chicken from their farm I assumed) was deftly steamed to perfection, tender and I especially adored the yellowish skin, which was without any fat layer with a pleasant “crunchy” texture.

Steamed Patin Fish

Patin fish is highly prized for its tender flesh and delicate sweetness accentuated by layers of fat. Fresh fish is best steamed for the best original taste, complemented by soy sauce, ginger, fried garlic and coriander leaves.

Shiong Tong Yun Choy

Bean Curd with Braised Luffa (Seng Gua Tofu)

Stir Fried Choy Sum

The veggie dishes were rather mediocre, nothing to pinpoint but nothing really to praise either.

Steamed Minced Pork

Yeah, it’s one of my favourite dish to cook at home – steamed minced pork! A simple homey dish but well executed with savouriness that commands another helping of rice.

Deep Fried Sotong

The batter was a bit bland for our liking.

Curry Wild Boar

It’s a rather dry rendition with wild boar meat and diced potatoes stir fried in curry sauce. The sauce tasted predominantly of curry powder and spices, and lacking that creamy taste of santan that I would have hoped. The texture of the wild boar meat also missed the mark, it was fairly rough and hard.

Refer their menu HERE.

Last but no least, Durian as dessert after our lunch.

Verdict: Overall, the food was just quite ordinary. However it’s definitely a good thing to be able to dine in at a special dining environment or restaurant setting instead of those ubiquitous eateries in the city.

Semenyih is certainly quite far for most of us (except those stay at nearby towns), does this place worth the lengthy distance travel, I’ll let you to judge yourself. ◑.◑ Like what I always say, the family bonding time is priceless. ♡^▽^♡

  • It’s quite exciting actually to go on a food adventure with family like this. I certainly did not expect the chicken dish to cost RM100.00! The fish must have cost quite a bit too. I went to Semenyih once during my uni days when I was doing research on oyster mushrooms.

    • PH, since this was a treat from brother, so I’m not sure the exact price for each dishes. 😛
I’m okay with food adventure, provided that I no need to be the driver, haha!

  • So, other than the steamed free range chicken, the rest were rather ordinary tasting. I can see that the skin has no fats…my kind of chicken (I wonder what’s capon chicken which I saw on their menu). The restaurant isn’t very good at butterfly-ing the fish, it looks a bit cacat…lol (wonder why there’s a slit on the fish tail…to check for doneness?). As for the steamed minced pork, it looks like the result of my ugly home-made one….with lots of holes, not smooth like how many restaurants do it (and I’ve always wondered why mine has holes)….wakakakaka! 😀

    • Kris, I can’t differentiate types of chicken, I only know how to eat, haha!
As long as the the slit didn’t affect the taste, I’m okay with it. 😛
Since this is not a high class restaurant, so the food presentation doesn’t really a matter for me. Actually I like the “rustic” and “original” look of those dishes.

  • Those durians look so cute, but I have my eyes on the patin & chicken.
