Restoran Chun Kei Tai Bu Noodle @ Pudu

Restoran Chun Kei Tai Bu Noodle has been delighting customers with its trust bowls of Hakka Tai Bu Noodles for over 90 years.

Tai Bu, or Da Bu 大埔, is a county in Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, China, which is a center of Hakka culture.

Situated at Jalan Pasar, Pudu, where the “Pudu Wai Sek Gai” (food street) is located, the restaurant setting and menu is simple and straightforward. Two types of noodles, three serving styles and four kinds of toppings,  even the most indecisive customer won’t take long to order. ( ̄. ̄;)

Hakka Tai Bu Noodles (Small- RM9.00)

Their signature Kolo style comprises handmade Tai Bu egg noodles, topped with minced pork, Char Siew, blanched Choy Sum, chopped spring onion and served with a bowl of Wonton soup.

The noodles were nicely cooked to right texture, springy with a crisp bite. The minced pork was the scene stealer here, it packed a punch in the flavour department, ravishingly flavourful and savoury. The Char Siew on the other hand was forgettable.

The supporting cast – the Wonton also performed their task well. The meat filling was convincingly flavoured and enjoyable.

Hakka Tai Bu Noodles (Small- RM9.00)

For the sake of trying more variety, I opted to have the soup version. However, it was slightly less exciting. The flavour of the minced meat was diluted by the broth, if I visited Chun Kei again, I would order the dry version. ∠( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)/

Dumpling (RM2.50/pcs)

Generously filled with a mixture of marinated meat and vegetables filling, as well as a whole prawn, a rather pleasing add-on to elevate your dining experience I would say.

Verdict: Thank you my beautician mentioned about this place when I had my facial appointment last week and I made a beeline for it after facial. It certainly a worthy addition to my to-revisit list whenever I go facial.

What are the places in my list? THIS, THIS, THIS, & THIS.

  • The noodles look good and I would prefer to eat the dry one. So after facial you have a few choices to go for makan.

  • I used to eat this when they were still in a shack-like set up in their old place but have not visited since they moved into their own shop. Always ate their dry-style, don’t remember ever eating the soup version. Yeah, their char siew don’t look like the photo at all…hehehe…but then this is Hakka mee, the char siew is always pinkish! 😉
