Restoran Sakunja @ Desa Sri Hartamas
This was mom’s birthday gathering and this time we had Korean food at Restoran Sakunja, Desa Sri Hartamas.
Located on the second floor of a shoplot in commercial area in Desa Sri Hartamas (same row with KFC), Sakunja is one of the many Korean restaurants in this Korean town. From authentic Korean barbecue, fried chicken and beer at Chimac Bistro to Bingsu, there are a variety of options to choose from. What sets Sakunja apart from other contenders is their food offerings which can be much explained by the photos below.
Fish tanks with some rarely seen (in KL) live seafood such as Sea Pineapples, Flounders, abalone, sea cucumbers, eels, and octopus are being placed at the main dining area.
The menu comprises quite a number of Korean dishes which aren’t something we had before in the ubiquitous Korean restaurants out there. If you have an adventurous palate, you will be delighted by the good selection of raw seafood and marinated raw seafood dishes it has to offer.

There are a few individual private dining rooms with tatami seating in the restaurant and we were told that there are minimum spend requirement for booking of these private rooms.

Pork Soup (RM32.00)
Dwaeji Gukbap literally translates as “pork, soup, rice,”, it is a local specialty in Busan. The broth is made from long hours of boiling the pork bone and different cuts of meat are added to the pot before serving.
Sakunja’s version wasn’t what I was expecting. The broth didn’t deliver much flavour, luckily a side of fermented shrimp made up for the shortcoming. The pork also wasn’t likeable, it had a rather strong “porky” smell that I don’t really appreciate.
BBQ Pork Set (RM35.00 x 2)
The grilled meat was nothing out of ordinary.
Soft Tofu Stew (RM30.00)
The stew was thick, spicy and pungent, loaded with Kimchi, Tofu and some clams and mussels for extra umami flavor.
Seafood & Spring Onion Pancake (RM50.00)
Generously laden with spring onion, squids and prawns, this Haemul Pajeon was soft, savoury and well seasoned.
Verdict: Although I like the generous serving or its Banchan, but Sakunja wouldn’t land a spot in my list of favourite Korean restaurant. It would be hard to be convinced for a revisit too.

The seafood here must be very fresh…it’s still swimming in the tank…lol. I wonder what is that super long fish in the tank? Doesn’t quite look like eel.

KY, we dare not try marinated raw seafood because worry that our stomach can’t handle it. >_<
