Restorant Cowan Street Ayam Tauge & Koitiau @ Ipoh
Previous Ipoh trip’s post:- Ipoh Cave Temples, Yong Tau Foo @ Pasir Pinji
Which is the BEST Ayam Tauge aka Bean Sprouts Chicken in Ipoh? I believe many of you will tell me is either Onn Kee or Lou Wong which really well established and very popular among the tourists. While both of the joints packed with tourist, the locals on the other hand have their own preferred place for the bean sprouts chicken. Recommended by one of the Ipohan blogger ~ Motormouth, Cowan Street Chicken Rice located at Jalan Raja Ekram is one of the locals favourite.
But please be warned that they are notorious for their odd business hour ~ they only will open for business whenever they feel like it. So the chances of seeing a closed shop when you craving for the chicken is 50-50, good luck dude! Obviously I the lucky one, yay!
The old-school rattan high chair for the kid 🙂
Barley ice & herbal tea.
Bean Sprouts Chicken
Ordering is simple, just mentioned the number of portion you want for your chicken & bean sprouts, they also offered chicken innard such as gizzard, liver, intestine or braised chicken feet.
The poached chicken was awesome, the texture of the meat was firm, smooth and tender and well cooked without any “bloody” scene which really make me recoiled. Simply drenched in soy sauce + sesame oil concoction and garnished with spring onions. What can I say but thumbs up for the combination!
Bean Sprouts
Plump and crunchy blanched bean sprout dressed in soy sauce with a dash pepper, simply but tasted fabulous!
Braised Chicken Feet
It may look unappetizing but I tell you look can be deceiving! These chicken feet were braised till soft and fall-off-the bone easily when you sucking it. The gravy was not too overwhelming but very robust and full of flavors from various spices, definitely a dish that not to be missed here!
Sar Hor Fun (Kuey Teow Soup)
For a more substantial meal, one can also order the soupy Sar Hor Fun (no rice was served here, so this is the only choice). Slippery smooth noodle in drenched in a equally tasty soup and I must admitted that Ipoh’s Sar Hor Fun tasted better.
Verdict: A very satisfying meal and I don’t mind trying my luck again if I make my trip heading up to Ipoh again.
