With more than 24 years experience in the culinary scene, Chef Yanagida has been working as Head Chef in many renowned Japanese restaurants in Japan and Malaysia. One of his accolades that he takes pride in would be the Japan Prime Minister Award for Japanese Cuisine Chefs and Occupational Certification as well as the honor of being a licensed FUGU handler (blowfish) who is certified to prepare and sell the poisonous fish.
We were greeted by these fresh seafood once we stepped into Genji, this definitely a sight to behold.
Dining at Genji always a pleasant experience. The restaurant is spacious and beautifully designed to offer a gorgeous yet relaxing ambience to dine in.
Chef Yanagida meticulously preparing our food and this “live performance” certainly the best appetizer for an exciting meal ahead.
Assorted Sashimi
The stunning bowl of sashimi served on ice featuring Salmon, Tuna, Grouper, Red Snapper and Marlin, further prettied up with some colourful seaweed, Shiso leaves and edible flowers.
The sashimi was divine, tasted wonderfully sweet with hints of oceanic notes of sea. I really enjoyed the firm but tender texture of those fresh fish and each bite sent my mouth and brain into “food orgasm” 😛 The sashimi are prepared the IKEJIME way to lock-in freshness and texture of the fish.
Prime Ikejime Fish Roll
A interesting combination of spring onion and Chinese coriander encrusted roll with raw fish fillet. The spring onion and Chinese coriander coating heighten up the flavors with its distinctive herbaceous notes.
Seafood Mushini Hot Pot
Next course was a treasure pot filled with abundance of precious seafood and assorted mushrooms in Yuzu broth. The Mushini Hot Pot showcases Ikejime grouper & red snapper as well as abalone, mussels, scallops and mushrooms. The light flavored Yuzu broth with hint of refreshing citrusy brilliantly elevated the the seafood to new height in flavors.
Seafood & Mushroom Teppanyaki
Another astonishing platter of seafood and mushrooms Teppanyaki comprises a seafood medley of red snapper, abalone, scallops, mussels, Shiitake Mmushrooms, Eryngii Mushroom and Oyster Mushroom. Cooked with minimal seasonings, one can savor the natural sweetness of the seafood with faint whiff smokiness. The supporting cast of mushrooms were well executed too, convincing textured and absorbed the flavors of the sauce.
Shishamo Tempura
Never a fan of Shishamo but I found myself enjoyed this light battered and crispy Shishamo Tempura filled with creamy and luscious fish roes.
Deep Fried Ikejime Grouper
The Ikejime Grouper fillets were deep fried rendering a crispy outer and the inner still remained tender and flaky. This dish may looked simple and plain but the accompanied ginger flavoured Tabasco Nazu successfully jazz up the flavors a few notches.
Garlic Fried Rice
Fluffy and very garlicky, one bowl will never enough I tell ya 😛
Genji Signature Green Tea Ice Cream
Always the best dessert to end an scrumptious Japanese meal, rich and creamy green tea ice cream topped with sweeten Azuki beans.

Only interested in the Sashimi, they look good. There’s a typo error though- ONE bowl (under garlic fried rice) 😀
Edited, thank you.
