Seng Kee Hokkien Mee @ Taman Bukit Maluri, Kepong

A food craving (also called selective hunger) is an intense desire to consume a specific food, and is different from normal hunger.

A food craving is a sign from the body that you’re missing something-whether that be balanced, adequate nutrition, or a particular nutrient. So when you’re craving a food, maybe you need to just eat it!

I have been on carbo-less diet for years and already used to skip carbohydrates for lunch and dinner (whenever I can). But sometimes selective food deprivation may cause the  induction of cravings for the avoided foods, for example my my favourite Hokkien Mee.

So when I had that sudden craving for Hokkien Mee, I responded to that desire by honoring it! Instead of our go-to Hokkien Mee restaurant, we tried out new place which recommended by my sis.

Located rather near with Be Real Cafe that I shared previously, Seng Kee Hokkien Mee is one of the many road side stalls at this old commercial area. It was a full house on Saturday night and we managed to secure the last table, by the road side. Yes, the cars were literally drove pass you with distance of less than 1 meter. o(≧◇≦)o

We waited for almost one hour for our food, so please don’t go with a hungry stomach.

Food choices here were limited to the usual fried noodles such as Hokkien Mee, Cantonese Wat Dan Hor, Loh Mee, braised Yee Mee, fried Shanghai rice cake or Bai Guo (白粿) and fried meehoon with canned stewed pork (Kou Rou Meehoon). Light food like fried chicken wings, fried Foo Chuk, and fish cakes were available too.

Fried Chicken Wings – 5pcs

Arrived pipping hot with lightly battered and super crunchy skin, as well as succulent meat. With a growling tummy, it didn’t take long for us to gobble it all up!

Hokkien Mee (1pax portion)

Sprinkled with golden little nuggets and the thick strands of noodles were coated with glistening dark soy sauce, pretty convincing I would say. Studded with vegetables, pork slices, prawns and more pork lards, the noodles were well braised in that toothsome soy sauce. It was cooked perfectly to my liking, not too wet and not too dry, my preferred consistency. This definitely a worthy addition to my list of top favourites Hokkien Mee .

Cantonese Wat Dan Hor (1pax portion)

The Wat Dan Hor was rather good too. Submerged in pool of luscious eggy gravy, there were generous amount of sliced pork, vegetables and prawns. I also like that the gravy was not too starchy. If there was one thing that could be improved, it would be the flat rice noodles (Hor Fun) could be more charred for extra smoky flavour.

Total bill: RM42.00

Verdict: Like the aforementioned, Seng Kee Hokkien Mee certainly one of the better ones in Kepong area that I’ve tried. The downside would be the long waiting time, but I’ll try to come earlier on my next visit to avoid the peak hour crowd.
