Takio Ikayaki @ Berjaya Times Square
Chanced upon this kiosk when I did my Christmas shopping at Berjaya Times Square last weekend. It is located at Tiny Taipei on 3rd floor which youthfully decorated with colourful and cute signboards.
These were the attractive point that ignited my interest, look at the gargantuan squid! I have a soft spot for “sotong” which can easily trigger my craving 😛
Although Takio Ikayaki is just a small kiosk but I can see the staffs worked systematically in the limited space.
Their menu is quite simple and we almost tried all their items 😛 #trulyglutton
Deep Fried 25cm Squid (RM 8.50)
This was the aforementioned giant squid , battered then deep fried. It had a pleasantly crunchy outer and the texture squid was not too rubbery.
Golden Squid Head (RM6.50 each)
This was entirely crispy and moreish however it could be better if the batter can be slightly lighter.
Ikameshi (RM 8.90)
Squid stuffed with Spanish rice.
An utterly cute in presentation, plumb in alluring golden brown hue.
Another species of squid was used, stuffed with Spanish rice paired with green peas, carrots and herbs.
There are sauces to go with the food, choose your basic sauce, tomato or chili sauce then match with flavor sauce such as honey mustard, thousand island, Thai chili or black pepper.
When we were busy digging in our squid, some grilling actions was spotted! Rows of shrimp skewers in vibrant orangy colour emitting astonishing smoky smell.
BBQ Lazy Shrimp (RM 5.90)
Wonder why it is named “Lazy Shrimp”? Because you can pop the whole thing into your mouth! Ya u heard me right, you can consume the prawn including its shell without the troublesome of peel it off. The shrimps coated with sweet sauce were delicious and I bet these can be the best beer snack ever~
Thai Style Soft Shell Crab (RM 12.90)
Served along with Thai salad, I found the deep fried soft shell crab was just mediocre and not crunchy enough.
Ice Lemon Tea – Medium (RM 2.90)
All the items can be upgraded to set meal with a drink of of choice (Ice Lemon Tea or Blackcurrant) with additional RM 2.00 – 2.40 only.
Verdict: A pretty addictive on-the-go snack especially when you cannot spare time for a proper meal when shopping 😛
