Uncle Cheng Special Beef Noodle @ SS2, P.J
I was brought to Uncle Cheng Special Beef Noodle by hubby for lunch on one Saturday. I heard of Ah Cheng Laksa, but Uncle Cheng Beef Noodles is a complete stranger to me.
Fuss free and simple setting of the restaurant. Although the address is in SS2 but Uncle Cheng isn’t located within your familiar SS2 commercial area (SS2 food court, McDonald’s and the durian stalls) but quite near to Taman Bahagia LRT Station.
After checking out their menu, I found that the beef noodles (dry version) served here was same with what I had at Seremban many years ago. Since we’re not fond of this version of dry beef noodles, we opted for the soupy noodles.
Beef, Tripe & Beef Ball (RM8.50)
Topped with beef slices, tripe, beef ball and garnished with cilantro, chopped spring onion and a dash of white pepper. The broth appeared to be very clear and light. The flavour was rather similar with THIS beef noodles that I had earlier, but milder that I would have hoped.
Beef, Tripe, Beef Ball, Dry Beef & Tendon (RM13.50)
Portion wise, the amount of beef & offal given justified the price charged.
Verdict: I’m afraid Uncle Cheng Special Beef Noodles did not land a spot in my list of favourite beef noodles to eat. Their version was too mild tasting for my liking.

I’d actually prefer the looks of this type of light tasting beef noodles as some beef broth has too strong a beefy flavour while some may be too herbal in taste for me. I also like lai fun when it comes to beef noodles.
Kris, actually I like both red braised and clear soup beef noodles, provided that it is strong in flavour. This one too light for my palate. 😛
I thought the menu looked quite promising but based on your review, Uncle Cheng Special Beef Noodle may not be so special after all. Maybe depends on each individual’s taste.
PH, true, everyone have their own preference, one man’s meat is another man’s poison. 😛
I used to stay just a short walk from there.
KY, I read your review when writing this post, hehe 😛
Actually I quite like this cranky couple’s beef noodles. It’s in a proper restaurant and so much cleaner than the dirty filty Seremban market. They have a good recipe, but these two arrogant couple with attitude issues and annoys their customers more are not steering their investment well. I have been patronising their outlet since it open 7-8 yrs ago, but I never seen more than 3 small tables during peak hours. People loves their chilly sauce, but they greatly restrict and control it. They only have a small bottle and serves from just this bottle. Can you imagine, they even charge you for a bowl of small soup. They are actually killing their own business. Most of my beef noodles khakis stay away from this “sohai” Cheng.
Charlie, customer service definitely plays an important role when comes to the overall dining experience. I’m those customer who really care about the service of the eateries that I patron, if I’m not satisfy with it, I wouldn’t go back no matter how amazing the food is =.=”
