Whimsical Gelateria & Caffe by Cielo Dolci @ Solaris Dutamas

One of my brunch meet up with friends was at Whimsical Gelateria & Caffe, brainchild of team behind Cielo Dolci which known to be a crowd pleasing ice cream parlor. Their artisanal gelato flavors such as Nasi Lemak (!), popcorn, teh tarik, tau fu fa and etc has received welcoming response from the patrons. Now they are expending their venture, a cafe with full-fledged menu consists of both savory and sweet courses located at Solaris Dutamas.

Located diagonally from Namoo on the Park, Whimsical Getateria’s facade portrays an ice cream hut with gelato in different flavors are stored individually in Pozzetti tubs in stainless steel storage. This keeps the gelato in the perfect temperature as the tubs were perfectly insulated, ensuring a smooth texture.

Gelato flavors available is displayed creatively in crossword puzzle form.

Pushed the heavy glass door in, the sunshine-blessed cafe exude a easy going vibe furnished with wooden table and chairs. Integrates concrete on flooring and part of the wall contrasting with baby blue cage wall and some cute ornaments, everything combined together making it a place that’s capable to put people at ease.

Al-fresco seats are available too.

The team has curated a few fun gelato associated brunch items in the the menu, other choices such as pasta, sandwiches, salads and burgers also sufficient to please everyone.

Whimsical Breakie (RM 27.90+)

A decent portion of breakfast platter consists of lamb sausage, beef sausage, beef bacon strips, sauteed mushroom, grilled tomato, baked beans, scrambled eggs and savory waffle. The sausages were good, juicy and well flavored, as well as moistly done scrambled egg. The savory waffle on the other hand received mixed responses from my partner in crimes, some found it weird but I like the unusual different, different in a good way that is!

Rise n Shine (RM 22.90+)

Another popular choices of brunch course I believe. Took the center stage definitely the beef bacon gelato with bits of bacon. Enjoy the multitude of flavors of smokiness, saltiness and creaminess from bacon gelato with fluffy pancakes, scrambled egg, roasted diced potatoes, sausages and ham.

You Goat Me (RM 24.90+)

A baked egg dish with a fun name. Lamb sausages, mushroom, sun dried tomato and goat cheese submerged in a tangy tomato base sauce. The gravy was bursting with flavors, the accompanied crusty breads were great to mop up the sauce.

Your Salmon Highness (RM 23.90+)

A stack of smoked salmon, wilted spinach & poached eggs on waffle & finishes with house hollandaise sauce. The smoked salmon was generous in portion however the waffle was a tad too salty for our liking.

Smoked Duck Ginger Aglio (RM 20.90+)

A huge serving og pasta crowned with smoked duck with copious grated cheese topping. The pasta was cooked al-dente and dressed olive oil infused with ginger and garlic with hint of spiciness from sprinkles of chili flakes. I especially like the smoked duck slices with exceptional smoky flavor.

Whimsical Toast (RM 16.90+)

French toast with a twist. Coated in chocolate batter, fried and topped with caramelized banana, almond flakes, housemade silky chantilly cream and prettified with icing sugar.

Cotton Candy Affogato (RM 13.00+)

I saw this Cotton Candy Affogato has already gone viral on social media long time ago (there is another cafe serve this too).

Correct way to savor it: Lift up the cotton candy, pour the espresso into the cup then compress the cotton candy into the concoction.

I do not know how to appreciate coffee but the coconut and gula mekala gelato underneath was spot on!

Verdict: Price is undeniable on higher side but  I found unusuality in the brunch menu which can attract one’s attention. Would like to came back to try more of their gelato in exotic flavors.
