Wonton Mee @ Restoran 22 Best Corner, Taman Sri Sinar, Kepong

Read about a post in social media group (which sharing about food in Kepong area) regarding this newly open Wonton Mee stall in one of the Kopitiams at Taman Sri Sinar, a neighbourhood that I seldom go to. In comparison with it’s nearby neighbourhood of Taman Sri Bintang with a few Kopitiams which are popular breakfast spots for hikers of Sri Bintang Hill, the former is unmistakably less happening and quieter.

Ah Soon Wantan Mee, manned by the boss and his helper, offers Wonton Mee with Wonton, Char Siew, Braised Chicken Feet, Ginger Duck, Curry Chicken and Hakka Braised Pork (Hakka Zha Yoke).

Wonton Mee with Braised Chicken Feet (RM9.00)

The Wonton Mee was cooked to a perfect al-dente texture, sufficiently tossed with dark soy sauce mixture infused with aromatic pork lard.

The braised chicken feet with mushroom was served separately. The chicken feet were braised till fall-off-the-bone tender and the mushrooms were rather soft too but the flavour was a little subdued. Perhaps I would enjoy it more if more braising sauce was given for the dish.

Char Siew Wonton Mee (Small – RM8.00)

The Char Siew in deep mahogany colour wasn’t overly sweet and the edges of the meat had a lovely charred layer. Not the best I’ve tried but is an option to consider if you’re craving for Char Siew Wonton Mee in this area.

Verdict: The one I tried at Taman Sri Segambut served good Wonton Mee but the Char Siew wasn’t up to par. This Ah Soon Wantan Mee was slighter better with both noodles and Char Siew were above average. Well, if you’re in Kepong area, I suggest that you try both since their locations are quite near to each other, so you can make your judgement .

  • The way you described the Wonton Mee with its perfect al-dente texture and that fragrant dark soy sauce mixture infused with pork lard…oh my, I can almost imagine the deliciousness!🤤

And let’s not forget about the Braised Chicken Feet!🐔 It sounds like they were cooked to fall-off-the-bone tenderness, although it’s a shame the flavour was a bit subdued. Maybe a little more sauce would have done the trick.🍗

  • Now, onto the Char Siew Wonton Mee. That deep mahogany-coloured Char Siew with a lovely charred layer…yum! 😋 While it may not be the absolute best you’ve tried, it’s definitely an option worth considering when you’re craving some Char Siew Wonton Mee in the area.

It’s great to have your honest verdict comparing this stall to the one in Taman Sri Segambut. If both places are nearby, why not try them both? 🤔 That way, you can make your own judgment and enjoy the best of both worlds!

    • Tekkaus, I tried Melaka Wonton Mee, it’s quite different with Klang Valley ones, in terms of flavour and colour, not really my thing I would say. Which one do you like, Melaka or KL one?

  • When we order braised chicken feet at a wantan mee stall, it’s usually served on top of the noodles, not separately. If it’s served separately, they should give you a bit of the braising liquid as the pot would have lots of sauce for braising purposes.
