Yen Can Cook: Pork Bulgogi
I was immediately enticed by this super easy Bulgogi recipe after watching Youn’s Kitchen which is a South Korean reality show featured a few Korean actors & actress opened a Korean restaurant at Gili Trawangan, Lombok ( Season 1).
Bulgogi, literally “fire meat”, is made of thin, marinated slices of beef or pork grilled on a barbecue or on a stove-top griddle. It is also often stir-fried in a pan in home cooking. There are numerous of ingredients combination for the meat marinade which varies by the region and specific recipe. Set aside those complicated recipe and you just need a few ingredients for this simplified recipe which I’m going to share today.
Ingredients (Serve: 2-3)

Sliced pork/beef
Cabbage, shredded
Onion, shredded
Carrot, shredded
* Quantity of all the above ingredients depends on personal preference
Cooking oil
White sesame seeds (optional)
Bulgogi Sauce
100g Asian pear + apple
100g onion
120ml soy sauce
120ml water
40g garlic
60g sugar
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 1: Blend all the ingredients of the Bulgogi sauce in a blender, set aside.
Step 2: In a large skillet, heat up the cooking oil then put all the shredded vegetables and cook till soft.
Step 3: Add in sliced meat and continue to stir fried for a few minutes.
Step 4: Add in the Bulgogi sauce and stir fried until all the vegetables and meat well coated with the sauce. Let them simmer for a while until the sauce is fully absorbed by the ingredients.
Step 5: Sprinkle white sesame seed on the dish and serve with rice.
HAPPY COOKING!
I love to eat this Bulgogi and never thought that it is easy to cook. I am also surprised that there is a Korean Restaurant at the tiny little Gili Trawangan Island in Lombok. I remembered cycling around the whole island but it was dark at night. No wonder I missed this restaurant. Ha Ha.
TM, the Korean restaurant was open for just a week, for the TV programme shooting.
Looks good! I have eaten the beef version at the restaurant. I love it!
PH, hubby prefer pork over beef so I use pork for this.
KY, too far, no delivery for that area, haha!
This dish almost mimicks jiu hu char, stir-fried jicama with carrots and cuttlefish which my Ipoh family likes to add shredded pork (without the bulgogi sauce, of course)! 😉
Kris, oh my first time seeing a jiu hu char recipe with shredded pork, that’s interesting!
