Yen Can Cook ~ Steamed Pork Patty with Salted Egg

Steamed pork patty is a classic Cantonese comfort food and there are lots of variations, like Steamed Minced Pork with Pickled Mustard, Steamed Minced Pork with Dong Cai, Steamed Minced Pork with Corn and Steamed Minced Pork with Mushroom . If I cook any of these steamed minced pork dishes, my low carb resolve goes out the window and eat plenty of rice as they are bursting with flavor and go really well with just white rice.


Today’s recipe is another simple steamed pork patty recipe which is very appetizing and tasty when served with rice or porridge – Steamed Pork Patty with Salted Egg.

 

Ingredients (Serve: 3-4)

500g minced pork (used half lean half fat meat)

1 salted egg, separate the egg white and yolk

Chopped spring onions for garnishing (optional)

Seasoning

1/4 thumb-sized ginger, grated/finely minced

1 teaspoon light soy sauce

1/2 teaspoon sugar

1/4 teaspoon pepper

3 tablespoons water

2 teaspoons cornflour

1 teaspoon cooking oil

Step 1:  In a big bowl, add in minced pork, egg white and all seasoning ingredients EXCEPT cooking oil, mix until well combined and the mixture become a sticky paste form. Add in cooking oil and set aside for at least 15 minutes.

Step 2:  Spread the meat on a slightly deep stainless steel plate or a large heatproof dish. Cut salted egg yolk in half and placed on top the of meat mixture.  

Step 3:  Steam in a wok over rapidly boiling water for 8 – 10 minutes or until cooked. Garnish with chopped spring onions.
