Yin’s Sourdough @ Kiara Bay

This was another casual lunch gathering with family and this round we opted to dine in at Yin’s Sourdough, located in Kiara Bay, Kepong. I always wanted to revisit Yin’s Sourdough since my first try on their food (pizza to be exact) at their Damansara Uptown’s branch and the distance from my mom house to this new developed neighbourhood is actually not far.

Situated within proximity to the Kepong Metropolitan Park, Kiara Bay is a 73-acre masterplan development that is set to transform one of KL’s earliest townships into an eco-living destination. The integrated development consists of residential units, a retail mall, office spaces, hotels, healthcare centre and educational institutions.

There are only two restaurants in this retail space, another one is Starbucks. The indoor seating capacity of this cafe cum bakery was rather limited, it would be safer to make reservation, just to ensure the availability of seating. The interior was well illuminated with natural light from the large glass windows and and green plants added liveliness to the ambience. One can also able to enjoy the lush greenery view of the Kepong Metropolitan Park if seated at the back of the cafe.

The front part of the cafe showcased a lovely counter for baked goods such as loaves, pastries, cakes and cookies. There’re some spreads, sourdough noodles and coffee beans for sale as well.

Originated from Penang, Yin’s Sourdough offers REAL BREAD which is free from any artificial additive or processing aid of any kind. The bread making process takes 2 days to allow the wild yeast and lactobacilli bacteria (the same bacteria found in yogurt) work in symbiosis to ferment the dough and make the bread rise.

Al-fresco dining facing the park.

Flat White (RM10.00)

The beverage menu features coffees, kefir drinks, juices and teas, priced from RM7 to RM17.

The food choices was peerlessly compact but rest assured, there’re no MSG, preservatives or artificial colouring are added into their food (as per stated in menu). The food is categorized into starters, burgers, pastas, pizzas, sandwiches, burritos and toasts. All day breakfast items such as big breakfast, breakfast parfait, shasuka and omelette are available too. Food menu price ranging from RM15 to RM33.

Egg Benny (RM28.00)

The pizza I had a few years back at their Damansara Uptown branch stole my liking and left a lasting impression, so I certainly did not attempt to miss it here. It’s a 6 inch sourdough pizza, crowned with homemade roasted tomato sauce, homemade chicken luncheon meat, mozzarella, egg and spinach (stated in menu but I couldn’t see any =.=”)

The sourdough pizza base was good, no doubt about that. It was rustic and had a lovely puffy edges with a bit of a chew to the texture. My only gripe was that the mushy texture of the homemade chicken luncheon meat. Other than that, the whole combination worked well.

Duck Carbonara (RM28.00)

For this price, I really hoping for bigger portion. Topped with a raw egg yolk, slices of smoked duck, mushrooms and sprinkles of dried herbs and grated cheese, the pasta was sufficiently creamy and rich.

Yin’s Breakfast (RM28.00)

The breakfast platter comprised homemade chicken sausage, homemade chicken luncheon meat, sourdough toast, saute mushroom, scrambled egg, grilled tomato (with hardly any grill marks >_<“), salad and fresh fruit (we got mango cubes).

The homemade chicken sausage and luncheon meat most probably the least popular food on the platter, due to their mushy texture and didn’t deliver much flavour.

Verdict: Overall, it’s a safe bet with an order of any of their baked items (eg: pizza or toast) as the flavour (with mild and pleasant acidic) and the texture really hit the mark. Food wise, what we had were not bad but it would be hard to be convinced for a revisit.

  • With the word “sourdough” in their name, I’m sure that will draw in the crowds…but they’re probably better with their breads first and everything else comes second. If your housemade chicken sausages and luncheon meat don’t cut it, then it’s rather difficult, isn’t it? >_< P/S: When you mentioned the first dish as Egg Benny, I was expecting Eggs Benedict…not a pizza, that's for sure….lol! 😀

    • Kris, perhaps the housemade sausage and luncheon meat didn’t suit our taste bud, other will appreciate it. It’s egg benedict’s ingredients on the pizza. 🙂

  • The one at Damansara Uptown is still going strong. I was tempted in the past to try their pizza but I was not too excited about the topping. What a pity that their homemade chicken sausage and chicken luncheon meat was disappointing. I guess it’s best to stick to their sourdough breads.

  • Egg benny sooooo pretty
