The Uma @ The Strand, Kota Damansara
Unlike the familiar Balinese restaurants such as Ole-ole Bali or Bumbu Bali which serve Halal Balinese food, The Uma located at Kota Damansara is specializing in Non-Halal Balinese cuisine. This really sound enticing for me & hubby as a great pork lover, hence we made a visit to The Uma one fine evening.
The restaurant occupied a two storey shoplot. The ground floor is dimly lit with nicely arranged wooden tables and chairs. Tastefully decorated with traditional Balinese artworks such as figurines, paintings, and such.
One of the wooden Balinese carving in the restaurant.
If the ground floor not attractive enough for you, do proceed to second floor just like us for more surprises!
The huge murals of paddy field on the walls & Balinese influenced ornaments had created a very authentic Balinese atmosphere for your dining experience.
Sit-on-the-floor style with low teak tables and cushions.
Teh Serai (RM 4.00+)
Refreshing with mild lemongrass flavor.
Kopi Bali (RM 6.00+)
Hubby had their signature Balinese coffee but not really like it though as he found that the coffee grounds was annoying >.<
Spicy Pork Ball Soup (RM 10.00+)
Served with a mild onion clear soup, the minced pork balls had nice texture of not too mushy and the chopped chili hidden within rendering a good notes of spiciness.
Grilled Pork Rib Set (RM 27.00+)
The set featuring a main dish, meat condiments, vegetable condiments, sambals and Balinese rice in a myriad of colours.
Our main dish in the set ~ The grilled pork ribs was tender and the smoky charred exterior was well flavored with good amount of perfumed spices. Very porkilicious indeed!
The spicy shredded chicken, deep fried julienned potatoes and sate lilit (minced fish satay) was ok but I hope the sate lilit can be a little bit thicker π
Stir fried long bean and kangkung.
2 types of chili dipping to go with your dishes which equally packed a nice fiery punch.
Fried Chicken (RM 17.00+)
Served pipping hot, the chicken was fried to perfectly crispy and the flavors of the marination was delicate. The addiction kicked in once the first piece was savored!
Verdict: It was a very enjoyable Balinese meal at The Uma overall, definitely a good choice if Non-Halal food is all you want π
