Watami Japanese Casual Restaurant @ 1 Utama
After my first visit to Watami, I’m always looking forward to see what’s new item they will bring in to surprise the diners. Watami add in array of new dishes every half yearly to give more choices to the patrons and I was more than happy to accept the invitation to sample some of the new varieties a few weeks back at their flagship at 1 Utama.
Bariuma Teba Karaage (RM 10.90)
Thinly battered chicken wings served pipping hot, crispy on the outer while the inner juiciness remained. The marinade was the magic ingredients that created a burst of flavors. Served along was Wasabi & Beef Consomme Dip which very commendable too, creamy, pungent and really versatile to go with any food! Good stuff!
Kushiyaki Miso Onigiri (RM 9.90)
The dainty skewers of rice balls topped with savory miso + bacon paste. The rice balls were nicely grilled rendering a crispy layer with slightly chewy inside, the texture was interesting and the nearest I could think of is the “burnt” rice found at the bottom of claypot rice 😛 Not really like it as I found that the outer layer was a tad too hard for my liking =.=”
Kaki Fry (RM 17.90)
Plump and juicy oysters were breaded then deep fried to a perfect golden! For a non raw oyster eater like me, this definitely a great enjoyment as I still can taste the briny flavor of the oyster. I think this go ideally with a chilled shot of sake for a perfect evening out!
Salmon & Avocado Roll Sushi (RM 21.90)
Autumn brings an abundance of fresh new ingredients to Watami tables in Japan and now to Malaysia too! Fresh salmon over delicately sliced imported avocado and filled with shredded cucumber and pickled daikon make this authentic Japanese creation.
Fire Oyster Roll Sushi (RM 18.90)
Sit on pool of chili sauce, the sushi roll with deep fried oyster was generously slathered with tartar and sprinkled with chili pepper. This definitely score point for novelty but the flavors also equally alluring; the chili sauce and the chili pepper did jazzed up the overall taste of the sushi roll.
Teriyaki Salmon (RM 22.90)
A wholesome meal by itself, indulging this grilled salmon steak drizzled with sweet and savory Teriyaki sauce with a side of baked potato, broccoli, corn and cherry tomato was more than satisfactory!
Tokyo Meibutsu Stamina Don (RM 15.90)
Served as Set Lunch together with salad & miso soup. Available for lunch on weekdays ONLY (except Public Holiday) from 11.00am ~ 5.00pm.
Juicy slices of marinated pork topped on bed of rice then crowned with sunny egg yolk and prettied up with sprinkled of spring onions, seaweed and pickled daikon. Mix all the ingredients and voila you’ll get a bowl of moist and flavorful don!
Nagasaki Chanpon-fu Ramen (RM 26.90)
Inspired from Chinese cuisine, this dish was adopted and made local by residents of Nagasaki in Kyushu. Chanpon is made by frying pork, seafood, vegetables and noodle to bring out the flavor then pork broth is added for further boiling. The broth was richly laced with robust flavors from various ingredients paired with imported ramen from Japan, very palatable indeed.
Also check out their startling array of beverages included alcoholic drinks, mojito, soft drinks, coffee, fruit juice, assorted tea drinks and many more~
There are still many more Watami has to offer, do head over to find out yourself! Also check out some reviews on Watami at www.hungrygowhere.my. There is also HungryGoWhere Malaysia app which available on both Google Play and iOS.
Verdict: Food overall was good and the variety was amazingly wide, revisit seem like a must!
