Mitsuyado Seimen @ The Starling Mall
*Sweeping spider webs and dust *cough *cough
Sorry for not updating my blog for days because I was not well for the past few days and now still in recovering stage but at least I have energy to do some drafting. Hope everyone stay healthy and drink more water on recent scorching weather.
One can hardly miss the Sampuru (Japanese food models) being displayed at the facade of Mitsuyado Seimen at The Starling Mall. They seem pretty realistic, don’t they? Those food models certainly looks good enough to eat and prompts your stomach to growl and mouth to water.
Mitsuyado Seimen (三ツ矢堂製麺), an old Tsukemen (dipping noodles) establishment in Japan which is famous for their yuzu oil-infused tsukemen broth, as well as the unique pairing of melted cheddar cheese with noodles.
I spotted quite a long queue when I passed by this place when its new opening period. When the smoke settles a few weeks later, I made my way to pay it a visit and there were only 2-3 groups in the line on a weekend lunch time.
The restaurant is rather spacious but doesn’t furnished with many seating. Except the row of banquette seats against the wall, there is a long communal table placed in the middle of the dining area under the an artsy bamboo chandelier. Set in dark wood theme with a splash of red and black, give the whole space a modern and chic look.
Tsukemen is a ramen dish in Japanese cuisine consisting of noodles which are eaten after being dipped in a separate bowl of soup or broth. This note is placed on every table to show you the correct way to enjoy a bowl Tsukemen.
Dashi soup and condiments.
Green Tea (RM2.90)
Original Yuzu (Regular – RM25.90)
Being a first timer, we opted for their best seller items of Original Yuzu and Marutoku & Half Boiled Egg to be shared among 3 of us.
Let’s talk about the noodles first which definitely worth a mention. Freshly made daily by using premium grade of wheat from Japan, the thick noodles are smooth and al-dente, with subtle hint of wheat aroma. Diners can choose from either “hot’ or “cold” noodles, but get the “cold” noodles as recommended for a more al-dente texture.
The noodles got stamp of approval from Sam as she said it tasted good even without the dipping sauce. ^__^
The signature Yuzu dipping broth was rich and ravishingly flavourful, a clear proof of long hours of pork and vegetables simmering. The broth came with pork pieces, bamboo shoot and vegetables but I could’t taste any Yuzu in it.
Dip the noodles into the delicious broth, every strand was irreproachable in taste and texture.
Marutoku & Half-Boiled Egg (Large – RM36.90)
It came with large portion of noodles, Yuzu dipping sauce, Mitsuyado’s roasted pork, half-boiled egg, assorted vegetables and seaweed. The Yuzu dipping sauce tasted slightly different with the former one, equally robust but with a pleasant smoky end note.
These two modest slices of roasted pork was just mediocre, laid on bed of crunchy bean sprouts, carrot and cabbage.
The half-boiled egg was perfectly done with runny egg yolk.
Verdict: We were largely contented with our meal at Mitsuyado Seimen. A well worth checking out for noodles devotees.
