Kukus @ Klang
When I thought our Klang makan trip was at an end after knowing that both fried chicken places that I wanted to try were closed on Sunday…….. Suddenly this place that we drove pass looked familiar to me and without further ado I asked hubby to stop the car at roadside (safely) because I’m pretty sure that this is the restaurant that I watched before in Chu Bro‘s channel that I mentioned in THIS post.
The restaurant is operating in a big Kampung wooden house, facing the main road of Jalan Tepi Sungai. There are indoor and al-fresco seating furnished with simple wooden tables and stools.
The restaurant exuded a very rustic vibe with its captivating collection of old school equipment and tools being displayed on the shelves.
I like these Milo truck toys! (♥ω♥*)
While you’re rejoicing in the lovely collection of vintage items, there’s something equally exciting at the outdoor! The barbeque pit lined up with sausages being grilled was certainly a sight to behold!
As usual, Chu Bro had quite a few dishes at Kukus in his video and the food that left a lasting impression on me was the exotic-looking meat sausage called ‘TongMo’. TongMo is a Cambodian delicacy made from marinated minced beef then stuffed into beef intestine/sausage casing. Grilled by using coconut husks, flashing amber flames constantly shot up among the sausages and in the same time smoked the hanging sausage bundles above the brick barbecue grill.
The menu featuring rice with assorted “lauk” (dishes) such as Ayam Goreng Berempah (Spiced Fried Chicken), Kari Kaki Ayam (Curry Chicken Feet), Tempoyak Patin Temerloh (Fish with Fermented Durian), and etc. Light food like TongMo, toasted bread, half boiled egg, green papaya salad, pancake and steamed tapioca are available too.
Teh Tarik (Hot – RM2.00)
Bandung (Iced – RM2.50)
Set B (RM6.50)
Not much food left when we arrived at 2.30pm and we still quite full after lunch & Appam, we only ordered this which was a platter consisted of TongMo, salad, toasted bread and half boiled egg.
The Tongmo is in cocktail sausage size and it has a good firm bite and a lovely smoky aroma. I’m glad that the meat wasn’t too fatty and it was infused with flavourful and enticing marinade. (^^)b
The Kerabu was mere generic.
♥ Verdict: The TongMo was quite awesome and suit our tastebud (3 of us agreed on that). I can’t comment more for the reason that I did’t try any of their lauk, so, drop by Kukus if you have chance to judge yourself!

First time I see a hot teh tarik served with a straw….lol. That tongmo looks a bit like a Taiwanese sausage. I would surely think it has a lovely smoky aroma being grilled over charcoal and hanging there to smoke. ^_~
Kris, I think the Teh Tarik was iced, let me amend the post first, hehe 😛
Yeah, now you reminded me that the texture and flavour of Tongno were rather similar with Taiwanese sausage.
This place looks very relaxed and interesting with all the displays esp the Milo Truck Toys. I am attracted to them too. So much memories of Milo vans at our schools.
This tang mo sausage is very common in Thailand since I was a kid. I think those Indochina countries share similar food dishes and sausages. You might find them stuffed with pork meat at Frame Thai @ Happy Mansion Section 17, PJ.
I will drop by this place if I can find it as I frequent Klang areas regularly.
TM, chilled Milo from Milo truck always tastes better, right?
I like Thai pork sausages which are extremely flavourful with all those spices and herbs.
Love these type of ambiance.
KY, it’s your territory, you can visit anytime. ^__^
