Restoran Keng Nam Hai 瓊南海茶室 @ Kampung Batu, K.L
I have been visiting Restoran Keng Nam Hai at Kepong whenever I need to fix my Lala Meehoon and Curry Noodles craving. An Instagram Reels that shared by my friend brought me to Restoran Keng Nam Hai, the Kampung Batu branch on last Sunday. Ramen stall in a Kopitiam manned by Japanese sound persuasive and the food looked good in the video too, isn’t it?
The Kopitiam is located near a morning market, therefore scouting a parking at this area might need a lot of patient. The hassle doesn’t stop here, although the indoor seating capacity is spanning over 3 shoplots (one lot is air-conditioned), as well as some outdoor seats on the walkway, getting a table at this Kopitiam with robust breakfast/brunch crowd is an uphill battle. Sharing a table with stranger(s) is inevitable, so be prepared.
We managed to share a table with two gentlemen at the air-conditioned dining area. As expected, the whole space is fully utilized with tables are cramped within the area. The Kopitiam was buzzing with activities, servers busy with ordering and food serving, baby cries and noise from people talking, one word to describe – chaotic! (≧ε≦)
Anyway, let’s focus on what I’m here for……. the Ramen. It was a bolt from the blue when the stall owner informed me that the food was sold out! But it’s understandable that it’s the power of social media nowadays, moreover, we were quite late that day (11am +). ╥﹏╥
We needed to eat regardless, so we checked on the vendors in the Kopitiam and I settled with this beef noodle.
Beef Noodle (RM15.00)
My soupy beef noodles looked legit with my choice of noodle – Lai Fun (other choices included thin and thick Wonton noodle), from the broth in dark brown hue, as well as the generous portion of beef innards on top.
The broth was flavourful with good dose of savouriness. The beefy taste was absent but that’s work for me, I enjoyed it thoroughly. There were beef tendon, beef tripe, brisket, beef slices and radish, all were braised to a tender perfection. (´☆ω☆`)
Curry Noodle (Small – RM9.50)
From the same vendor at Kepong branch, the curry noodle stole our liking. Thick and creamy with the fragrance of coconut milk was apparent. The noodle was crowned with chock-full of ingredients such as bean curd puffs, bean curd sheet, pork balls, rehydrated pig skin, long beans and bean sprouts (we omitted cockles). (^^)b
Char Kuey Teow (RM9.00)
Felt that I still had room for more food, I decided to try out the Char Kuey Teow (CKT). My verdict on this CKT can be summarized into one word – soulless. It lack of the “Wok Hei” for a good plate of CKT and the flavour was one-dimensional – salty.
Verdict: Although I really adore the beef noodles but the hassle of getting parking and seat were a deterrent to me for revisit. For the Ramen, I’ll make my way for it after the excitement cool down. (´-ω-`)
