Restoran Keng Nam Hai @ Pusat Niaga Metro Prima, Kepong

This is the last post before my blog off for Chinese New Year holiday. Yeah, Mimi’s Dining Room need to take a break too, haha!  The last week before we welcoming the year of the Water Rabbit 2023 is quite a hectic week for me as hubby is attending meeting at Jakarta since Monday and will be coming back on tomorrow evening. I need to arrange the school run and meals for Sam, as well as some last minute spring cleaning.  T_T

Okay, go back to today’s post…. It was first day of 2023, hubby and I did our usual Kopitiam hoping like any other Sunday. This time we visited Restoran Keng Nam Hai that we never been before, although it has been around for years.

We had two targeted food to try out – Lala Mehoon and curry noodles. This Lala Mehoon vendor has been garnered quite a bit of media attention for its Hennessy XO Seafood Noodles.

Instead of the premium Hennessy XO Seafood Noodles, I had the more wallet friendly Hua Diao Lala Meehoon (sorry I forgot the food prices for this post).

The Lala Meehoon offered here was different with the one I had at Lai Foong Restaurant. It was served in milky broth, similar with Fish Head Noodles and it’s non-spicy also (without any chili). The broth was delicious with good dose of savouriness infused with rice wine and ginger. There were decent amount of fresh and succulent hard shell clams. I’m glad that curly vermicelli was used for that pleasant springy texture that I enjoyed immensely.

Curry Noodles also another highly recommended food at Keng Nam Hai and it deserves the merit. The curry broth was thick and creamy and the noodles was bountifully topped with ingredients such as pork balls, bean curd puffs, bean curd sheet, rehydrated pig skin and bean sprouts (we omitted cockles).

Verdict: Both Lala Meehoon and Curry Noodles that we tried were scored up to my expectation and Keng Nam Hai definitely a worthy addition to my favourite Kopitiam list.

  • Yeah, sometimes the coffee shop is right under our noses but we only get round to trying it years later…hah..hah. I’ve been here before and they certainly have my stamp of approval for both the la la noodles and curry mee. I thought they were good too (you can imagine so when my husband approves since not many curry mee passes his test…lol). The la la noodles is quite famous but the curry mee is under the radar I think. Too bad you came years after my visit coz the Black Man Nasi Lemak (who has since moved but still around the area) is good too. ^_~ Wishing you and your family abundant health and a prosperous CNY!

    • Kris, I tried Black Man NL when he was moved to Keng Nam Hai (he moved many places :P), not bad but didn’t wow me lah, hehe 😛
Actually the curry mee is quite famous also, maybe not as famous as the Lala Meehoon in the same Kopitiam, as I saw sharing (in Chinese) on social medias too.

  • That lala meehun does look very inviting. Wonder how it compares with the one at Lai Foong
