Kopitiam Good View @ Vista Mutiara, Kepong
Do you aware of a post that went viral on social media recently regarding a customer slams OldTown White Coffee over the pitiful Butter & Kaya Toast that he got during his visit to this “used-to-be-good modernized kopitiam chain? Read HERE if you don’t know about this news. He was served with Butter & Kaya Toast with 2 extremely thin slices of butter (which looked like petite crinkle cut fries to me LOL) and the kaya spread on only 1 bread. He even went on to praise their competitor, Oriental Kopi, for doing a better job with their kaya butter toast. =.=”
I’m luckier than this gentleman because this was the Kaya Butter toast that I had for one of my Kopitiam visit. ^.~
Tai Zi Lui Kaya Butter Toast (RM3.80)
This is a hidden dish which is not in their menu, one need to tell the secret code (Tai Zi Lui Xiu Min Bao – literally mean boss’s daughter toast) when ordering. (^^)v
It’s an usual toast but with additional step of butter spread on the surface of the bread before toasting it, rendering a more fragrant and buttery finish on the toast. Thick slice of frozen butter (or margarine?) with slather of Kaya (coconut jam) sandwiched in the toast, satisfaction guaranteed on every bite.
Actually, the toast wasn’t the reason I came for. What attracted me was their signature Herbal Duck Drumstick Mee. ⇑
The Kopitiam was full and there was a constant stream of customers throughout that morning. Be warned that parking is quite challenging in this area.
The menu featured the classic local breakfast of assorted toasts, noodles (curry mee, Wonton Mee and Pan Mee with various combination of toppings/ingredients) and snacks (curry fish balls, dumpling soup, curry pork skin, fried Wonton, etc).
Signature Herbal Duck Drumstick Mee – Dry (RM15.90)
Pun Chun Restaurant in Bidor, Perak is the one place that springs to my mind when mentioned about Herbal Duck Drumstick Mee. We used to drop by the restaurant for its iconic noodles (another iconic dish would be their Woo Kok – Yam Puff) whenever we travel to the North. But we had stopped to do this since the deterioration of food standard as well as the price increase on our last visit more than 10 years (?) ago.
Good View version definitely spot on! The noodles with al-dente texture was tossed in a mix of soy sauce, dark soy sauce and a dash of compulsory pork lard oil scored brilliant, brownie points with us. The upper thigh of the duck, cooked in a wholesome and flavourful herbal broth was tender and chopstick-tender.
Special Curry Laksa Mee (RM8.50)
The curry mee also another recommended dish in the menu. The broth was adequately creamy and robust, with nice burst of spices. The noodles came with bean curd puffs, pig skin, bean curd sheets, long beans, meat balls and Char Siew.
Iced Cham (Large – RM3.30) & Iced Barley Lemon (Large – RM3.00)
Verdict: Now I know where can get my Herbal Duck Noodles craving fixed and the secret Kaya Butter Toast alone merits the revisit.

Yeah, I used to stop by Pun Chun on my way back to Ipoh too (years ago, not anymore). I liked their herbal duck mee but not their yam puffs. Your slice of frozen butter (definitely butter, never margarine) in your kaya toast is really thick. These days you get slivers of butter (like the one given by OldTown) at some places too since butter is expensive. Yeah, I’ve had toast slathered in butter on top too and it’s more delicious that way.
Kris, I never tried their Yam Puff too. The reason you’ve stopped visiting Pun Chun is….?
That’s why it’s so “precious” to be served with toast with thick butter like this!
Those butter, oh myyyy
KY, the thicker the merrier!
Kaya 🧈 butter toast is super nice go 2 days at 1 pm curry sold out , will go again
Vivian, IKR, the toast is awesome, wanna try it again!
