Nasi Lemak Burung Hantu (TTDI 2) @ TTDI, K.L

After away from home for 10 days for his business trip, hubby’s request of Nasi Lemak breakfast just had to be fulfilled, right?

We came back to Nasi Lemak Burung Hantu again after the previous failed attempt and finally it was ticked off from our list.

This photo was taken before their operating hours and the space was filled up soon after. Long queue was formed in front of the ordering counter after that.

The dining area is a semi open space, brightly lit and all the seating is cramped on one side and the food preparation and ordering counter is set on another side.

The chicken frying station is placed near the entrance with freshly fried Ayam Goreng Berempah (spiced fried chicken) in enticing golden hue to attract passer by.

The rather simple and straightforward menu – Nasi Lemak with different dishes.

Teh O Limau (Cold – RM4.70)

Big cup and not sweet. (^^)b

Nasi Lemak Basmathi – Ayam Berempah (RM15.40)

The Nasi Lemak came with all the trimmings of super crunchy fried anchovies, peanuts, Sambal, sliced cucumber and egg (fried egg or hard boiled egg). There was stir fried Kangkung too, which I would have hoped for bigger portion. 😛

What set Nasi Lemak Burung Hantu apart from other contenders is Basmathi Rice is used, which has a lower glycemic index than other types of rice. The coconut infused rice was done to perfection in my book with delightful fluffy texture, aromatic and full of flavour.

The Ayam Berempah was slightly disappointed as the skin wasn’t as crunchy as I would have expected (it was just lukewarm) and the crunchy deep fried crumbs also MIA (missing in action). The chicken was well marinated with enjoyable flavour nonetheless.

Another crucial element of a good plate of Nasi Lemak is the Sambal. Burung Hantu version packs a nice fiery punch and more on sweet side.

Nasi Lemak Basmathi – Sambal Sotong (RM16.90)

There was good amount of tender pieces of squid cooked in a hot and fiery Sambal gravy, good companion to go with the rice.

Verdict: I’m sorry to say that this wasn’t the Nasi Lemak that I would come back for. Have you tried this? Let me know what’s your verdict.
