QingHeGu @ 163 Retail Park Mall, Mont Kiara

This was the last birthday gathering with my Makan Kaki gang several months ago before the alarming rise in Covid-19 cases.

QingHeGu was our lunch venue this round and we initially wanted to go to the Damansara Uptown outlet but changed our mind to this which nestled in 163 Retail Park Mall, Mont Kiara considering that parking is easier in the mall.

We made reservation in their website and the restaurant the rather vacant throughout our lunch that day.

The restaurant is spacious and receives great illumination of natural light from the huge glass windows. It boasts a simple yet modern design featuring a mixture of white and bare bricks walls, sturdy wooden furniture with splashes of red on the hanging lamps. The whole dining area is brilliantly sectioned into several areas with different seating options.

Fresh lettuce, condiments and banchan were served after we placed order. We liked the brinjal and pumpkin but the quintessential dish of Kimchi wasn’t really suit our taste bud.

The menu consisted of classic Korean BBQ with choices of beef ranging from RM40- RM90 (150g) and pork from RM30-RM40 (150g-280g). Beef Set featuring 600g of beef ribs, rib finger meat & sliced beef priced at RM248 and Special Set featuring 750g beef ribs, pork ribs & pork belly priced at RM188 also available.

Other dishes such as Army Stew (RM80), Steamed Egg (RM8), Four Colour Pancakes (RM40), Seafood/Kimchi Pancake (RM30), Japchae (RM30), Tteokbokki (RM30), Bibimbap (RM30), assorted stews (RM30) and cold noodles (RM30) also can be found in the menu.

Salt and Pepper Pork (RM30 – 150g) & Pork Belly (RM30 – 170g)

We let the staff did the grilling for us and the grilled meat was just mediocre, nothing to shout about.

Cow Tongue (RM40 – 150g)

The grilled cow tongue was a letdown, chewy and rubbery.

Sundubu Jjigae (RM30)

Served pipping hot in a earthware pot, the bean curd stew was laden bountifully with silky smooth bean curd, clams, zucchini, mushrooms and egg. However, the taste was quite bland though.

Cheese Egg Roll (RM30)

Lusciously filled with melted cheese, the egg roll was soft and tender, satisfaction guaranteed in every bite.

Mung Bean Cake (RM30)

A popular street food made from batter mixture of ground mung bean, vegetables and meat. The pancake had a lovey marriage of flavours and textures from the various ingredients but it was a bit greasy for my liking.

Jumugbab (RM30)

Had your DIY session to roll the rice infused with seaweed, sesame, Tobiko, and spicy seasoning into rice balls. Oh, they were so flavourful and tasty, a treat that I’m willing to sacrifice my diet for.

Complimentary coffee, barley drink and ice cream.

♥Verdict: QingHeGu didn’t quite live up to my expectation because I’ve read quite many good reviews about this place. Food was pretty average and the variety of Banchan was merely satisfying as well. Revisit? Probably not.

  • The Salt and Pepper Pork looks so scrumptious and appetizing. I want some. 😀

  • I have been to the Damansara Utama branch and had the BBQ only twice. It was not bad as far as I remembered. The kimchi that they serve is very much different from traditional kimchi. The last time I was there, it had a tomato ketchup taste LOL!

    • PH, the food was not bad just not memorable. 😛
I can’t remember what’s the weird taste of that kimchi, it was just didn’t taste like the usual one. =.=”

  • Oh dear, the taste of the food didn’t impress you….but the food photos look good wor….especially the seaweed rice balls (my fav), salt & pepper pork (nicely charred), mung bean pancake (crisp fried) and cheese egg roll (minus the cheese for me). I’ve not seen beef tongue served in such big pieces though. Those cubicle seats are very good for social distancing…lol! ^_*

    • Kris, haha, can I say that my photography skill successfully made the food looked good? LOL
Seaweed rice balls were great, I like it but others just average, nothing to shout about. The beef tongue, I think the cut was too thin to be enjoyed.
