Restoran 168 Wan Tan Mee, Curry Mee, Bubur & Nasi @ Pudu
When it comes to food in Kuala Lumpur, the backstreets of Pudu are always full of hidden gems.
Hubby and I noticed this Restoran 168 that occupied the corner along Jalan Brunei when we were at Restoran Teochew Lao Er. It was brimming with a robust lunch crowd that time and we decided to make a visit next time when we are in downtown.
With tables and chairs, as well as the open kitchen spilling onto the five-foot way beside the drain, you know what to expect in terms of cleanliness and comfort.
I didn’t ask for menu but according to the hanging banner, Restoran 168 offers Char Siew Wonton mee, curry mee, dumpling, fish balls and pork balls. There were good selection of Yong Tau Foo also.
The huge pot of boiling radish chicken soup was ready to be served to the diners.
Dry Wonton Mee (RM10.00)
One of the highlights here is undoubtedly the Wonton Mee. The noodles had that persuasively springy bite — firm yet silky — tossed in a dark soy sauce that carried just the right balance of savory and sweet. Topped with Char Siew that was caramelized and slightly smoky, along with fresh greens, it was a bowl that delivered nostalgia and satisfaction in every bite.
The Wonton were decent with a filling of minced meat and whole prawn.
Curry Mee (RM10.00)
Another signature dish here at Restoran 168 is the curry mee. The broth was aromatic, spiced, and full-bodied, with a creamy richness that clung to each strand of noodle. Topped with fresh cockles, tofu puffs, pig skin, long beans, brinjal and mint leaves, the bowl was bold and comforting at the same time — the kind of dish that leaves you polished off the soup long after the noodles are gone.
Dumpling
To complete the meal, we ordered dumpling soup. The dumplings were plump and generously filled, with a mix of minced pork, prawns, and woodear fungus that gave a satisfying juicy bite. Served in the radish soup that mentioned above, the broth was light but richly imbued with sweetness from the radish and chicken bones.
Verdict: Very decent and reasonably priced curry mee and Wonton noodles in the heart of the city. If you’re in Kuala Lumpur and want to experience an authentic and unpretentious atmosphere of the local dining culture, you may put this place into your list.

I tried this place a long time ago…but it didn’t leave an impression and we never returned. Don’t remember it having yong tau foo though then…maybe I need to revisit to remember the flavours again…lol!
