Restoran MJ Wang @ Taman Sea Park, P.J

One of our (hubby and I) Sunday breakfast food hunting brought us to Restoran MJ Wang located in Taman Sea Park, Petaling Jaya for one of it’s reputable vendor in this Kopitiam – the Gai Si Hor Fun (GSHF) aka shredded chicken soup noodle.

Like any others popular Kopitiam, the restaurant was teeming with customers that day and waiting for table is inevitable.

Price list

Prawn & Shredded Chicken Hor Fun (RM9.00)

Hmm…. the presentation certainly a smash hit with the distinctive orangey prawn oil floating on the bowl with essential condiments of fried onions, chives, shredded chicken and two sizeable prawns.

How about the taste? The first sip was astounding. The broth was richly infused with sweetness and umami taste from the prawn head and shells, further enhanced the flavour was the fried onion. The prawns were fresh and succulent, all condiments compliment the slippery Hor Fun perfectly. A very competent option if you’re not able to travel to KL for the best GSHF (in my book lah :P).

Updated @ 30/6/23 – Thank you Kris for enlighten me about their branches. Check out this FB Page for their stall/shop locations in Klang Valley & Ipoh.

Duck Egg Chor Kuey Teow (Small – RM10.50)

There were mixed reviews on the Google Review but our plate of CKT was respectably executed to decent standard with the Wok Hei and flavours that hit the mark. My one minor gripe was it was slightly oily and can be quite cloying after finished the whole portion.

Verdict: MJ Wang is a place that we’ll happy to return to try have the GSHF again. There’s a beef noodle that I would like to try out too on my next visit, stay tune for more reviews!

  • I must say that the kai see hor fun and CKT both look very good. I am looking forward to your review of the beef noodles!

  • I’ve eaten this kshf before (not the one in this shop but the one in my taman). (I read that) they come from the same people running Wong Zhi Noodle Shop (HQ in Puchong) with a presence of about 20 stalls in coffee shops (they also have 2 in your Kepong area). That means some stalls will be better than others but the broth should be consistent since they come from a central kitchen. I’d say it’s a decent kshf with a good chicken stock but slightly lacking in prawn aroma (but the one you had I’ve to say has a bit more prawn oil than the one in my taman). It’s also a bit on the salty side (for me). They have 2 proper shops of their own (the HQ one and one near me in Taman Muda which I’d like to try to see if it’s any better).

As for the beef noodles here, I’ve had it before also…ate it here (in this shop in PJ) before realising they (Yang Kee/Ki) were from the same family that runs Yang Mooi in my taman (younger brother runs the one in PJ)…lol. Other than trying the beef noodles, if you have the chance, do try their lobak ngau lam. ^_~

This shop looks very different (with a change of name and possibly owner, previously known as Tong Fong) and there are a lot more stalls now. Perhaps time for a revisit.

  • Kris, wow thank you for your detailed explanation and I found that both Kepong branches are very near to me and I’ll definitely go try then out! But first of all, I’ll go back PJ branch to have that beef noodles first, and of course your recommendation of Lobak Ngau Lam!
