Restoran O & S @ Taman Paramount, P.J

Our Sunday Kopitiam hopping this time brought us to Restoran O & S at Taman Paramount, one of the busiest eateries in the neighbourhood. However, it was an unpleasant experience…….. (-_-)

The restaurant was packed to the brim as expected and there were patrons standing beside tables to chope the seat and we followed the trend stood beside the “potential” customers which appeared like finishing their food soon. Suddenly, an auntie slowly moved to the table that I was waiting and she sat without hesitation once the customers left their seat. I was so angry but couldn’t do anything, so we had to chope another table and it was another 10 minutes of waiting. ⋋_⋌

The eatery occupied a corner lot shoplot and like most of the typical Kopitiam, tables are  cramped in the shop as well as area at the side where all the vendors are housed. It’s quite warm and stuffy, not a very comfortable environment to be in, to be honest.

There are good variety of food such as Curry Noodles, Assam Laksa, Char Koay Teow, Koay Teow Thng, beef noodle, Yong Tau Foo, chicken rice, Chee Cheong Fun, Wonton Mee, Nasi Lemak, Pisang Goreng, & etc.

Prawn Mee (RM9.00)

The Prawn Mee wasn’t among some of the better tasting ones I’ve eaten before, it was just OK.

Char Kuey Teow (RM9.00)

The Char Kuey Teow was as good as it looked. Full of “Wok Hei” with pleasant smoky aroma, adequately moist but not greasy and laden with ingredients such as fresh huge prawns, cockles, and crunchy bean sprouts.

Penang Chee Cheong Fun (RM3.40)

I knew I have to get this Penang style Chee Cheong Fun when I saw it is available here. Oh, how I miss this Penang delicacy~~~~ (◕_◕)

Different with the Klang Valley version with sweet sauce or curry gravy,  the ultimate trademark of the island’s thin rice noodles was doused with the pungent ‘Hei Kor’ (shrimp paste) and plenty of fried onion and sesame seeds. This was heavenly to my taste buds.

Verdict: There’s definitely a lot more food to try at Restoran O & S, especially the highly recommended Asam Laksa and Curry Noodles, but waiting for table in a stuffy environment never something I enjoy. Revisit? I don’t have a firm answer I would say. ╮(╯_╰)╭

  • Ah, you finally made it to O & S…I’ve had the same experience that you had here. Because they’re are always super crowded, trying to get a table always mean you have to wait (my husband and I even wait at different tables to see which ones the customers vacate first) and we do bump into the occasional ‘annoying’ person who tries to ‘steal’ your seats! >.< And because they 'jam' so many stalls into the coffee shop, it'll be stuffy and warm without doubt. That's why I don't visit as much as I would like to.

If you've read my posts on O & S (spanning 4 posts in total coz there's a lot to try like you said), I could have helped you narrow down to the few 'must-tries' here. At least you managed to try one of my 'must-haves' here…the Penang CCF. The CKT is also decent but the current prawn mee is hopeless (the better one that used to operate there has moved to their own shop further down the road on the same street but even that one did not meet my standard). Second 'must'have' is the yong tau foo stall (note that this stall is super busy and it's self-service meaning line up and take the food yourself). Must choose the 2 best items here…the fried fu chuk roll & sui kow. Third 'must have' is to tapau the "chung' (I like the Cantonese, white-coloured rice dumpling the best). Other than my 3 'must-haves', other possibilities would be curry mee, assam laksa (provided you like it really sour), wantan mee & kuey teow th'ng…if you ever venture here again. I think I've eaten almost everything here.

    • Kris, thank you for your well detailed comments and this definitely my reference if I’m going to O & S again. Actually hubby is the one who check out review whenever we visit Kopitiam and Google Review is his favourite platform, that’s why he didn’t come across your posts.

  • Wah..this type of environment I don’t like and some more got people potong and “steal” your table >.< At least you got to eat a good CKT and CCF. Or else will sure be very frustrated.

  • I could feel your frustration when that auntie swooped in and took the table you were waiting for. 😡 But hey, kudos to you for finding another table and enduring the 10-minute wait! 🙌

I totally get what you mean about the cramped and stuffy environment in some kopitiams. It can definitely take away from the dining experience. 😓 And let’s not forget the variety of food you mentioned – my mouth was watering just reading about all those delicious dishes! 🤤

  • It’s a shame that the Prawn Mee didn’t live up to your expectations, but at least the Char Kuey Teow made up for it, right? That “Wok Hei” and all those fresh ingredients sound absolutely amazing! 🍤🔥 And that Penang Chee Cheong Fun with the shrimp paste and fried onions? Oh, you got me craving for it now! 😋

Overall, it seems like Restoran O & S has its hits and misses. The waiting time and stuffy environment can be a downer, but there are still more dishes to explore there. Maybe next time you can try the highly recommended Asam Laksa and Curry Noodles! 🍜

  • My favorite there is chee cheong fun!
