Robataya Izakaya @ Publika
It was an accidental discovery and turned out to be a very satiated lunch. We initially headed to Senya Izakaya for lunch but the restaurant was fully occupied, so we settled ourselves at Robataya Izakaya located along the same row.
Robatayaki, in Japanese cuisine, refers to a method of cooking similar to barbecue in which the food are cooked over hot charcoal. Robatayaki originates from a centuries-old country style of cooking by northern Japanese at home around a communal hearth called Irori.
Irori – The Robatayaki charcoal pit placed in the restaurant.
Outdoor seating
Their menu has one of the most comprehensive selections that I’ve ever seen, from the usual Japanese offerings such as sushi, sashimi, maki, roll, nabe, teppanyaki, salad and tempura. You can find Kushiyaki, Sumiyaki, Tataki and of course their signature Robatayaki in the list as well. If you feel indecisive on the ala carte menu, opt for the rice and noodles set with over 30 choices, which are very value for money.
Salmon Oyako Don Set (RM28.00)
The set comprised of rice bowl topped with Salmon and Ikura, pickle, Kushiyaki, Chawanmushi, Miso Soup and fruit.
Very decent portion of fresh Salmon Sashimi and Ikura completed with dollop of wasabi, pickled ginger, julliened white radish and Shiso leaf.
The Kushiyaki which I guess was a minced chicken skewer was a bit on dry side. The meat was not as charred and smokey as I would have hoped.
The texture of the Chawanmushi was too firm for my liking too.
Buta Kyushu & Sashimi Set (RM28.00)
The set comprised of rice, grilled pork, assorted Sashimi, pickle, Kushiyaki, Tamago, Chawanmushi, Miso Soup and fruit.
Very moreish grilled pork belly with sweet sauce. Nice smokey flavour with hint of sweetness that adds the overall flavoursome.
Thick cut of Salmon, Butterfish and Maguro.
Buta Sutamina Don Set (RM25.00)
The set comprised of rice bowl topped with spicy stir fried pork, pickle, Kushiyaki, Chawanmushi, Miso Soup and fruit.
It’s a very princely serving of rice bowl with pork slices, sliced onions and chives stir fried with spicy miso, crowned with raw egg yolk. It had a good dose of savouriness and spiciness that’s went really well with rice.
♥Verdict: The set meal that we had were indeed justifiable with the generous portion and I even skipped my dinner after the lunch. Although the side dishes slightly missed the mark, but overall the food was satisfying for our non-fussy standard.

Would love to indulge in the Salmon sashimi which look fresh and like you have said the portion look quite generous. 🙂
The pork belly must be tasty too.
Tekkau, satisfying tummy and mood after the meal, hehe 😛
I blog about food, so I admit I have a fussy standard (I have to…..hah…hah). I could see from the photos that the chawanmushi was too firm and I (too) would have liked a bit more charring in the kushiyaki & grilled pork…lol. Otherwise, the rice dons are nicely priced with good portions, I’d be satisfied too. ^_~
Kris, from 1 to 10, my fussy level to food would be 7.5, does it considered fussy or non-fussy? LOL
7.5 certainly cannot be considered as non-fussy….hah..hah! 😀 Maybe mid-fussy? Hehe. Me probably a 9…wakakakaka!
Kris, LOL
I have been to the one at 1 Utama and I would say that I enjoyed the food there. Must revisit one of these days!
PH, this place already in our revisit list, hehe 😛
Izakaya usually offers pretty good value, there’s one nearby me too at Empire Subang
KY, a good place to have some decent and wallet friendly Japanese food.
Not satisfied…
This time..2 times extra over charge me the tiger beer…
So disappointed…
