Taman Putra Fresh Prawn Noodles 太子园生虾面 @ Taman Muda, Cheras

Cheras, a township that we seldom venture into due to the distance. But when we knew that we can enjoy a portion of Sang Har Noodles (Fresh Prawn Noodles), a rather high priced dish with only RM18 in Cheras area, that’s another story…….  ( ° ͜ʖ °)

On a Sunday morning, we made our way to Taman Putra Fresh Prawn Noodles at Taman Muda, a local favourite known for its signature big prawn noodles that draw in crowds from near and far.

It was full house upon our arrival circa 11+am but luckily we managed to get a table for two after 10 minutes of waiting. The restaurant has that quintessential Malaysian Kopitiam vibe – casual and lively. The semi open air dining area is equipped with sufficient air conditioners and ceiling fans.

The price of the signature Fresh Prawns Noodles is categorized according to the size of the prawns.

Other offerings in the menu included seafood stir fried, small selection of Chinese dishes (Sambal Petai with Prawns, Curry Fish Head, Ginger Spring Onion Beef), variety of stir fried and soup noodles (Beef Hor Fun, Lala Mihun, Fish Head Noodles, Hokkien Mee, Cantonese Yin Yong), as well as a list of fried rice (Salted Fish Fried Rice, Sambal Shrimp Fried Rice).

Fresh Prawn Noodles (X Small – RM18.00)

We came here for this, so we had to their signature fresh prawn noodles.

Served with springy fried noodles soaking in a luscious golden gravy, each spoonful was brimming with sweetness from the prawns and richness from the eggs. For the price charged, we didn’t expect to get a jumbo size prawn, and these two medium sized prawns gave satisfaction in terms of freshness and flavour with adequate amount of prawn roes. The deep fried noodles slowly softened under the sauce, giving you the best of both worlds: a little crunch and a silky bite.

Fried Beef Hor Fun (Small – RM21.00)

To complete the feast, I also tried their Fried Beef Hor Fun. The flat rice noodles had that perfect smoky char, stir-fried with tender slices of beef, crunchy bean sprouts, Choy Sum and onions. It was savoury, fragrant, and incredibly satisfying, though I’d hope they dial down the oiliness. 😛

Verdict: I can see now why this place is so popular. One can enjoy a scrumptious meal depending on the budget where you leave with a full belly and a happy heart. If you’re in the area, make this a dining spot.

  • I’ve been wanting to try this sang har mee near me too…but hearing that one has to wait for seats deter me…for now. Getting 2 XS prawns for RM18 (that seems fairly good-sized as well) is indeed good value (though I only see 3 halves…lol…one hidden under the noodles?). Recently there’s one stall (also in a kopitiam) in my neighbourhood that serves sang har mee for RM21. I think I’ll try that one of these days before trying the one here.
