Xiao Man’s Kitchen @ Tropicana Gardens Mall
I bookmarked this Xiao Man’s Kitchen after watching a review video in Youtube. We headed directly to the restaurant on the next weekend for lunch and planned to visit Don Don Donki (for the first time :P), kind of kill two birds with one stone. (^_-)v
Ordering was made at the counter and self service for cutlery, sauces and condiments.
Both sides of the long and narrow space behind the entrance/ordering counter was placed with simple wooden tables and stools.
Further into the restaurant lay a dining area which received great illumination of natural light from the glass windows. Furnished with both banquette seat as well as normal wooden round tables and stools.
The menu was sufficiently filled with classic Taiwanese rice and noodle dishes, dumplings, beverages and icy desserts (shaved ice).
Dumpling Tofu Soup Meehoon (RM14.90)
There’re options of served with spicy or normal braised minced pork, Sam opted for this as her lunch. The broth was originally rather mild tasting, adequately flavoured by the braised meat after mixing. The dumpling was just decent though, not particularly outstanding in taste. For standard like this, it would be hard to lure me to try out their dumpling range.
There were 3 types of dumpling with shrimp, Chinese cabbage and chives filling respectively, served in bone soup or Mala soup, or dry dumplings or pan fried. Priced from RM6.90 to RM15.90, depends on filling and serving (5pcs or 8pcs).
Noodles, on the other hand have options of knife shaved or meehoon, serve dry or soup (with spicy or normal braised minced pork). The noodles were served with different toppings such as braised beef, pork knuckle, pork cutlet, dumplings and Wontons, price ranging from RM14.90 to RM18.00.
Signature Pork Chop Rice (RM17.90)
The presentation was attractive with big slab of fried to perfect golden pork chop, pickles, preserved radish, braised tofu and egg (underneath the pork chop), arranged nicely on the bowl of egg fried rice.
One of the classic Taiwanese dishes that never fail to be a crowd pleaser for everyone of all ages. The deep fried pork chop was infused with marinade that imparted a rather sensational flavour to it. Texture wise, not the tenderest that I’ve eaten but acceptable. The braised egg could be braised a little bit more longer for a more flavourful finish. Served with egg fried rice definitely earned an extra brown point for it!
Taiwan Hong Sao Beef Noodle Soup (RM18.00)
It’s certainly a great delight when I saw my bowl of noodles was bountifully topped with chunks of braised beef which looked so beautifully cooked. The braised beef had decent balance of soft meat and gelatinous tendon, so well braised till “chopstick” tender. The flavour was savory and robust.
The broth, despite had a dark hue but the taste was greatly overshadowed by the braised beef, too bland for my liking.
One may add on RM8.00 for a serving of side dish + any drink or RM10.00 for side dish + any shaved ice.
Side dish of the day – pickled cucumber.
Signature Shaved Ice (RM9.90 for ala carte)
A refreshing icy dessert comprised tapioca balls aka Boba aka brown sugar pearls , taro balls, sweet potato balls and grass jelly. How I wish I can have it now, the recent scorching weather is killing me. (≧ε≦)
♥Verdict: The food was generally decent with rather wallet friendly price tag. All in all, it’s quite a good option if you’re looking for a place for lunch/dinner in the mall.

The Signature Shaved Ice looks very inviting. Was there milk in there or soy milk? Yes, the weather has been extremely hot lately, I miss the rain! The Signature Pork Chop Rice would be my pick for my main meal.
PH, the shaved ice was milk base (but rather mild tasting).
That beef noodle does look superb!
KY, the beef was good but the broth was a bit under-seasoned.
