Yen Can Cook ~ Braised Pork Ribs with Onions

An easy braised pork ribs recipe that promises fall-off-the-bone ribs with a sweet, savory taste. The saucy braised ribs is great to pair with hot steamed rice and it’s freezer-friendly too, perfect for meal prep.

Ingredients (Serve: 3-4)

450g – 500g pork ribs

1 large yellow onion, cut into wedges

3 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 thumb-sized ginger, sliced

1.5 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon Chinese cooking wine (Shaoxing Wine)

1.5 teaspoons dark soy sauce

500ml – 600ml water

Salt and sugar to taste

Cooking oil

Chopped spring onion for garnishing (optional)

Step 1: Clean the pork ribs then put them a pot of water and bring to a boil, to remove blood and impurities. Remove, drain and set aside.

Step 2: In a wok, heat up some cooking oil, add in onion wedges, cook until the onion are slightly soften. Add in garlic and ginger, continue saute till fragrant.

Step 3: Add in pork ribs (Step 1), soy sauce, Chinese cooking wine and dark soy sauce, stir to combine.

Step 4: Add in hot water, bring to a boil and simmer for 30 minutes with low heat or until the pork ribs are tender. Extra HOT water can be added if the gravy runs dry. Stir occasionally to avoid burning on the bottom.

Note: Optionally, you may thicken the gravy by adding cornstarch slurry (cornstarch + water) on this step. 

Step 5: Season with sugar and salt. Serve.
