Celyn Resort Kinabalu @ Ranau, Sabah
I was at Kota Kinabalu early this year when Chinese New Year with my family for a 3D2N trip. We picked up our rented cars (Car rental info can be found at the end of the post) at KK airport and traveled all the way up to Kundasang. The journey took us about approximately 2 hours and the roads are a bit hilly but nothing that requires a compulsory 4 wheel-drive maneuvering.
Our first night at Sabah was spent at Celyn Resort Kinabalu. The location of the resort was quite tricky, please take extra attention to the small signboard at road side which can be easily missed. Turn into a junction from the main road and the small road leading up to the resort was quite challenging, steep, rocky and winding that stretches for about 3-4km.
Ample of parking lot at the resort facing the breathtaking mountain view.
Reception counter and the in-house restaurant (Bunga Raya Cafe) where the buffet breakfast is served. Wifi only available here but the signal was quite slow on our visit.
We booked 4 rooms at Valley Wing with private balcony overlooking the view of the valley and forest surrounding Mount Kinabalu. For a better Mount Kinabalu view, get a room at Kinabalu Wing, upper floor to be precise as per recommended in Tripavisor.
Our room was basic and rather dated. Equipped with a queen size bed, ceiling fan, wardrobe with a “smelly” bathrobe, TV and DVD player, dressing table and a wooden chair. I felt really uncomfortable when my feet stepped on the cold tile floor. It’s advisable to bring your own indoor slipper if you don’t want to walk on these chilled floor.
Please beware that leaving the glass sliding door open could attract moth/other insect to fly into your room.
The bed was firm and not really comfortable for my liking.
Extra bed is charged at RM65.00/bed/night.
A TV with limited channels selection and the reception was very poor. There is also a DVD player but you have to bring your own DVDs.
Dressing table, hair dryer, complimentary drinking water and basic coffee making facilities.
The bathroom was quite sad looking with stains all over the shower area, tiles and WC. Hot water comes in a mini boiler, just nice for a 10-15 min shower before the hot water runs out. Wait another 15-20mins before the next shower. Basic toiletries such as shower gel, shampoo and towels are provided.
Kinabalu Wing and villa which have a stunning view of Mount Kinabalu.
The kids can’t wait to explore the place. At a temperature of between 15º c – 32ºc, take a slow stroll around the resort is really enjoyable.
Surrounded by luscious flora & fauna, it is indeed a great escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Views from different locations at the resort.
Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sam with her cousins~
Verdict: The room might not in top notch condition and definitely need a lot of improvements. However the excellent views surrounding well compensated the overall experience. Stay tune for next post of our meals at their in-house restaurant ~ Cafe Bunga Raya.

DVD player without DVD….hmm….
the room really very Basic…
No choice, many were fully booked 🙁
My parents just came back from this resort too last month and they said the path to this resort is very challenging and deep inside.
Yes, the rocky road is indeed very challenging, must drive slowly and carefully~
Lovely place to visit la. Extra bed rm65 ah…pricey a bit
Pricey ar? How much is extra bed normally charged?
Lovely place but not the room. Eversince I have kids, I am very particular on the rooms when I travel. I don’t mind spending a little bit more to get a better and cleaner room.
Merryn, due to traveling on peak season (2nd day of CNY), choices are very limited and many were fully booked. Luckily I can get accommodation or else will have to sleep road side, haha!
i’ve not heard of this resort, but it looks comfortable and nice, and the surroundings are peaceful and quite beautiful too 🙂
Me too knew about this place when searching for accommodation that time 😛

view from valley wing balcony can see Kinabalu Mount or not…
So sorry to tell you that there is no Kinabalu Mount view from the balcony. But there are other room types with the view.
the room is creepy and haunted 😥 not a pleasant night to stay😭
Anonymous, the condition of the room definitely not the best I’ve stayed but it’s quite decent for my standard. When was your stay? Maybe they didn’t maintain it very well and the haunted part, I have no comment though as myself didn’t experience it and I don’t want to experience it as well >_<
