Chinese New Year Menu 2016 @ Toh Yuen, Hilton Petaling Jaya

To welcome the prosperous Lunar Year of Fire Monkey, Toh Yuen Chinese Restaurant at Hilton Petaling Jaya has prepared a sumptuous spread of Chinese New Year specialties. As part of the Lunar New Year feast, Chinese Executive Chef Ben Lim has crafted an array of pork-free Cantonese cuisine befit for this special occasion.

The spaciously designed restaurant is sparked with charm with its soothing earthy tone theme associated with some oriental influence thrown in here and there. Besides the main dining area, the place is brilliantly partitioned to offer privacy. It is a very comfortable atmosphere partnered with clean and pleasant setting.

Prosperity Yee Sang with Fresh Salmon 鸿运三文鱼鱼生

The auspicious festive menu kick started with the Yee Sang, the Chinese New Year must have prosperity salad. Have a good toss to the shredded ingredients into the air with chopsticks accompanied by saying various “auspicious wishes” out loud. This really heighten the festive mood to the max!

Double Boiled Fish Maw Soup with Black Mushroom and Dried Scallop 幸福满窝

Our soup course was this clear soup intensely infused with ocean note from the precious ingredients of fish maw, dried scallop, mushroom and goji berries. It was indeed a brilliant soul and tummy warmer.

Steamed Imperial Chicken with Chinese Herbs and Sea Moss 彩凤迎春

The heavenly aroma that wafted to our table when the waiter bringing it to us was so irresistible. I literally drooling while taking photo, really can’t wait to dig in immediately.

The whole chicken was steamed in thick and flavorful herbal gravy. The meat was extremely tender infused with rich herbal flavors, a gentle cut with fork is all it needs! We gobbled it up effortlessly in jiffy.

Teow Chew Style Steamed Pomfret 一帆风顺

Fish is one of the highly popular dish in every celebrative occasion which symbolizes abundance of wealth. This one is prepared classically in Teow Chew style coupled with the preserved vegetable, mushroom, bean curd, spring onions and coriander. The fish was gorgeously firm and sweet possessed a harmonious balance of savory, sweet and sour.

Stewed Whole Abalone with Australia Sea Cucumber and Sea Moss 包你发财

The lavishly prepared stewed abalone with sea cucumber and sea moss was pretty impressive with its delicate and luxurious ingredients used. I love the collagen-laden sea cucumber braised in savory brown sauce, fabulously delicious.

Deep Fried Prawns with Lemon Mayonnaise Sauce 财源滚滚

A visually attractive dish of golden deep fried prawn balls served with tangy lemon mayonnaise sauce and sprinkles of crushed peanut and sesame seeds. I enjoyed immensely the crunchiness of the battered prawn balls as well as the citrus-ty dressing. The crushed peanut provided a pleasant nutty flavor to it.

Steamed Glutinous Rice with Dried Oysters Wrapped in Lotus Leaf 荷塘金玉

Unwrapped the lotus leaf and revealed the beautifully done glutinous rice. It was moist and well flavored, generously studded with dried oyster, mushroom and salted egg yolk then prettied up with dollop of tobiko.

Osmanthus/Sweet Olives with Lemongrass Jelly 甜甜蜜蜜

For dessert, we had the classic steamed Nian Gao (rice cake) which was pleasantly gooey and sweet. Also appeared on our table was the refreshing lemongrass jelly in Osmanthus broth.

The Prosperity reunion dinner and lunch sets are available from 18 January – 28 February 2016.

Toh Yuen remains open on the Eve of Chinese New Year and throughout the 15-day celebration.
