Hard Rock Hotel Penang @ Batu Ferringhi Beach

It’s ‘hard’ to believe that a global brand that spawns from restaurants, hotels, casinos and shops started from the search for a good burger. Two Americans living in London opened the very first Hard Rock Cafe in satisfying their craving for good old American burger in 1971.

Today, Hard Rock Hotel as one of the babies from this global phenomena will always keep the guests in awe with unique rock star experience with modern comfort and unforgettable amenities.

Our very first experience with Hard Rock Hotel was at Penang on our first day in Penang excursion in 2017. I have booked our accommodation directly through their website. You may also check out my second day accommodation HERE.

Situated along the famous beaches of Batu Ferringhi, the 6-story Hard Rock Hotel Penang features 250 rocking’ rooms and suites which blending rich music culture in their design. A giant guitar welcomed us once our car drove into the car park.

Also strategically placed at entrance of Hard Rock Cafe is the statue of the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

The lobby is spacious with ample of seating for the guests. We were duly served with refreshing welcome drinks while awaiting check in.

Hard Rock brand definitely made its name by providing its visitors a rocking time. The themed hotel is filled with fascinating memorabilia of music icons, collection of costumes, musical instruments and awards.

Beatles-inspired artworks, sculptures and mosaic-tiled-paintings were placed all over the hotel’s lobby granting plenty photography opportunities for guests and visitors. It’s like a museum that houses precious treasure that reflects the evolution of music, fashion and the arts, celebrating artistes from the 50’s to late 90’s.

One of my favourite feature of the hotel is this iconic Hard Rock logo recreated in a fine drop-light chandelier that dominates the entrance to the lobby.

After the swift check-in, we proceeded to our room but were gladly distracted by the impressive walkway in captivating purple and gold colour theme. Also adorning the space are some framed photos of artist and comfortable sofas.

The hotel even provided a little surprise for Sam when we stepped into our room. A cake with birthday wishes decorated with balloons greeted my dear Sam for her 8th birthday. (Special request was made during room reservation)

Our Seaview Deluxe room in white and purple tone looked well maintained. It is tastefully furnished with a king size bed with plush mattress, fine cotton sheets, cozy duvet and two types of pillows.

Echoing the hotel’s theme, our room is decorated with a huge John Lennon art piece on the wall. Small details such as acoustic guitar embroidery on the pillow case was a delightful find.

An interesting wall separate the bathroom and the bedroom where you may easily convert your bathroom to a open bathroom concept but it’s not my cup of tea in exposing myself too much 🙂

The bathroom was modernly design although rather small in size. The cleanliness was top notch and fully equipped with their signature Rock Spa toiletries.

Our room is full to the brim with modern in-room amenities. All rooms are fully equipped with DVD/CD players, minimum 32-inch LCD/LED screen TVs, iPod docking stations, BOSE Sound System, complimentary Wi-Fi and an interactive IPTV system which offers complimentary blockbuster movies on demand (which I admittedly binge-watch throughout the late night). Coffee and tea-making facilities, minibar and IDD telephone as well as a hairdryer, in-room safe, bathrobe, iron and ironing board also available.

Our seaview deluxe room has a private balcony that perfectly poised for watching sunset, reflecting on life’s simple pleasures, meditation or simply savoring cups of coffee while letting your mind wandering around. The room and the views get my vote as one of the best hotel rooms that I have stayed!

Balcony with clothes hanger rack, chairs and coffee table.

It’s pool splashing time!

One of the main reason for us to choose Hard Rock Hotel Penang as our pod is the spectacular swimming pool.

It is a huge 26, 000 sq feet free-form swimming pool – the largest swimming pool in Penang.

The kiddie swimming pool is a play-place cum swimming pool with both sand and tiled floors for children’s preference!

With its sand bottom toddler pool (great so little ones don’t hurt themselves when they fall); water slides for all ages to use and the splash zone water park; it is definitely a great fun for kids. The deeper areas of the pool gave older children to space to do fun jumping and diving into the pool. There’s also a section for the children too, and it is the busiest and noisiest pool. It is equipped with slides, fountains and climbing bars to entertain the little ones. Some sections of the pools have sandy bottoms, as well as underwater music to serenade you as you swim.

Inflatable tubes for renting.

For adults that wanted more tranquility, you may make your way to the edges of the pool area that borders the beach to catch up on your books while listening to the splash of waves. Adults also have option to sit at the pool bar (centrally located at the pool) to enjoy to enjoy a few sips while keeping an eye of your kids.

In summary, I have to say we have so much fun at the pool.

For your information, you may rent the pool side cabanas which comes with water and a fruit plate.

I also had a fair share of my own me-time while the hubby and Sam playing at the pool.

Beach and sun lovers can head over to the beach right behind the pool area where watersports like jetskiing, parasailing, banana boat ride and other fun outdoor activities are available from operators stationed there.

Pony or horse riding which I’m not really encourage was available too. 🙁

We also had some time to check out other amenities in Hard Rock Hotel Penang while waiting for table for dinner at Hard Rock Cafe.

The hotel premises in beautiful purple hue when the night fell.

The breakfast buffet was served at Starz Diner which sectioned into two areas. The restaurant was packed when we came down for breakfast at 8am+ and a queue was soon ensued just 20 minutes after that.

The buffet spread was pretty satisfying with wide varieties of choices ranging from local delights, western food, Indian food and Middle East cuisine.

There is soft serve too which made both adults and kids happy!

Other dining options in the hotel are Pizzeria, Lobby Lounge, Sand Bar and The Shack.

There are mini mart, laundrette, money changer and massage parlour within walking distance from the hotel.

Verdict: Undoubtedly one of my best hotel staying experience and we felt so reluctant to check out. My personal expectations were met, even exceeded. Definitely would like to come back again!

  • I need to visit this famous hotel for once since it’s in my hometown. Thanks for sharing the whole place in details as they looked impressive for my liking.
I used to hang out and stayed there during my younger days when it was Casuarina Hotel which commands the best stretch of beach there. They really have well refurbished that place perfectly to top notch. Kudos!

  • I super love their swimming pool but also super scared as it is always extremely crowded.

  • Hmmm, balcony with a clothes hanger is a first. ^_~ I couldn’t help but notice that your husband must have enjoyed the place so much that he didn’t get much sleep….coz he had black rings round his eyes in one of the photos….kikiki! 😀

    • Kris, the hanger is absolutely useful to hang dry our swimming suits, hehe 😛
My hubby’s dark eye circles was not because of this trip lah, he always sleep late so it follows him like forever already, his trademark, haha!
