Straits Food Company @ Bangsar
I’ve visited Straits Food Company quite some time ago armed with discount vouchers bought from group buying website. Operated by team from Baba Low’s 486, Straits Food Company echoing the concept of its sister outlet by serving wallet friendly Nyonya/Peranakan food.

The interior is basic and frills-free, simple tables and chairs placed neatly in the spacious dining area. Open space with large windows allow natural lights floods in to illuminate the place. I adored the vintage tiled floors that evoke a warm sense of nostalgia.

Slogans in various local languages on the walls, ‘Food For All’, ‘Makan First, Talk Later’, their tagline/motto ^__^

Biscuits and cookies stored in old school aluminum tins.

Al-fresco seats

Hot Lime (RM 2.00), Barley (RM 2.00) & Nescafe (RM 3.00)

Nyonya Laksa (RM 7.00)

With a choice of vermicelli, yellow noodles and kuay teow, the Nyonya Laksa laden with cockles, a prawn, julienned cucumber, beansprouts, tofu puffs and hard boiled egg. The broth was mild in spiciness and easy to the palate as it was not too cloying with lesser coconut milk added.

Nasi Lemak (RM 6.00)
Nasi Lemak was mediocre and I thought it was overcharged for this portion.

Mee Siam (RM 6.00)
Accompanied with plenty of shredded cucumber, omelet, fish cakes, hard boiled egg, the Mee Siam was pretty good. Pungent and not too dry, eat with the sambal as well as a squeeze of lime for that extra oomph!

Honey Mustard Chicken Wings (RM 8.00 – 6pcs)

Popiah Peranakan (RM 4.50)
The popiah was equally good, wrapped with soft popiah skin and filled generously with jiu hu char, bean sprouts, cucumber, sweet sauce & chilli.

Cendol (RM 4.50)
Bowl of fine shaved ice drizzled with adequate amount of Gula Melaka and santan, slivers of cendol as well as marinated kidney beans. This is the only one dessert available here.
Verdict: If you are looking for decent and affordable Nyonya street delight and home cooked dishes, this place would do you fine. Other dishes offered here are Ikan Gerang Asam, Ayam Pongteh, Bendeh Sambal Belacan, Otak-Otak, etc.

mee siam from the looks itself definitely will be cup of my tea!!!
That mee Siam worth a try 🙂
What happened to the sambal for the nasi lemak? The portion (including the mee siam) seems a bit small for RM6?
Oh ya, I never notice the sambal is missing! Why ar? *scratch head
I like their old fashioned ambiance and square biscuit tins!!! Reminds me of my childhood days.
I am very surprised that you bought vouchers to dine. I thought all the meals were sponsored by the restaurants!
TM, you are wrong lah, such a huge misunderstanding,OMG! Some meals are sponsored for review purpose and most of the meals (with lesser food) was my own paid ~>_<~
Sorry sorry lah. Heh heh…. Just teasing you because you are a very good food blogger. I must compliment all your excellent photography skills and angles. I studied photography as one of the majors in States, so I know how to see good shots. Well done.
Haha, I know u are kidding with me lah *slap your back.
Thank you for your compliments and I’m still learning how to take good food photo 🙂
