Genki Sushi @ Sunway Pyramid
“I’ll be back”
It is a famous catchphrase associated with the movie “The Terminator”. But I would like to associate it with the welcome greetings of Genki Sushi back to Malaysia’s shore.
With the intro above, you could guess how old I am when I mashed The Terminator with fond memories of my dining experience with Genki Sushi back in the 90s. Back then, there was not much affordable Japanese dining available but Genki Sushi was an exception with quality food at great prices. Alas, I felt extremely upset when Genki Sushi was closed down more than a decade ago.
Well, my nostalgic heart did skip a beat when I learnt that Genki Sushi opened an outlet at Sunway Pyramid recently. A foodie like me would not waste the chance to revive back all the sweet memories. Therefore, a customary visit was done swiftly. How was the experience? Read on~

Genki Sushi Sunway Pyramid outlet – It’s a bright and fuss-free space, with simple setting of banquette seats and long counter seats in soothing earthy and white theme.

We were given our personal QR Code once we were seated and this is the ordering system that Genki Sushi is using to allow patrons to make order using their devices. Free one hour WIFI is provided too!

Use QR Code scanner apps or Facebook or even WeChat to scan the provided personal QR Code and you may start browsing their menu.

Simple and user-friendly ordering system. Food are well categorized for easy browsing and you can check your order summary to avoid over-ordered. 😛

Apart from the new ordering system, Genki Sushi also proudly introduces the Kousoku Express delivery system, which designed after the Japanese Shinkansen bullet train. The “train” allows speedy delivery of food directly from kitchen to table, ensuring freshness, so no more plates of sushi plates revolving around the the conveyor belt!

Their extensive menu featuring all the essential items included sashimi, sushi, appetizers, assorted rolls, handrolls, tempuras, fried and grilled food, rice and noodles. One of the hightlight in their latest menu is the Dai Man Zoku selections, showcases sushi 1.5 times bigger than the standard sushi serving.

Check out the comparison, bigger size = bigger satisfaction!
Dai Man Zoku – Seared Red Shrimp with Garlic Butter (RM4.80)
Seared Boiled Shrimp with Garlic Butter (RM6.80)

Condiments on every table – the pickled ginger, say sauce, wasabi, Shichimi as well as the hot water tap.

It’s so nice of them to provide Sam a cute kids cutlery set.

Green Tea (RM1.80)
Instead of the usual green tea bag, green tea powder is provided.

Green Soybean (RM4.80)

Steamed Egg Custard (RM3.80)

Salmon Sashimi (RM13.80)

Salmon and Flying Fish Roe (RM9.80)

Seared Salmon with Pollock Roe (RM6.80)
California Hand Roll (RM5.80) & Soft Shell Crab Hand Roll (RM6.80)

Grilled Eel Mini Don (RM12.80)

Udon with Shrimp Tempura (RM13.80)
Verdict: I like the new Kousoku Express delivery system which not only add fun element to the dining experience but also guarantee the freshness of the food. Food was decent for the price charged, definitely an ideal option for affordable Japanese food restaurant.

PH, it’s not difficult, trust me 🙂
The name sounds familiar….I can’t remember if I’ve had eaten here before. Getting old….memory giving way…hehe! 😉 Ooo, express delivery from the kitchen to your table….I hope your ‘train’ don’t get ‘kidnapped’ on the way…kekeke! 😀
Kris, if you’re my age then you most probably had tried Genki Sushi 😛
I didn’t try to lift up the train that day so not sure about if it can be removed, LOL
My boys are kept occupied collecting their food. Good for them. At least they dont complain bored when we lepak longer to enjoy our meal.
Merryn, boys will always be boys, they are more interested to vehicles and sort 😛
The original iPad sushi place! Good to see they’re keeping up for sure, those shrimps look good!
KY, you mean last time they use iPad for ordering? I don’t remember that =.=”
