Taman Tugu @ Kuala Lumpur
A new adventure unlocked! \(^▽^)/
We had our first hiking on last month at Taman Tugu which nestled behind the Tugu Negara, in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
If you’re driving, search for “Taman Tugu Nursery”, this will lead you to the start of the forest trails. The park is open daily from 7.00am – 6:30pm with the last entry at 5:45pm. Entrance to the park is free of charge.
Opened in September 2018 and conserving a 66-acre green-lung in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Taman Tugu’s consisting of approximately 5km of forest trails within the park with more than 5,000 indigenous trees and 1000 species of flora and fauna. There are several trails with different length to suit hikers of all fitness levels. Being a first timer, I think the Taman Tugu forest trail is suitable for absolute beginner hikers and all age groups.
The nursery patch.
There are stalls selling souvenirs, light food and drinks.
Here’s a quick sample of what the Taman Tugu trails look like. Mostly flat with some stairs and gentle slopes for a reasonable workout.
Sports attire and sports shoes or a good pair of walking shoes is recommended. Apply insect repellent especially if you attract mosquitoes.
Thumbs up for the clear trail signage of each checkpoint along the trails.
Info boards of the tree along the way for educational purpose. By partnering with the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM), over a thousand trees in Taman Tugu have been marked for preservation. More trees, including indigenous species, are being planted on-site within nurseries to eventually be moved into the main forest area.
There are a few concrete benches and swings dotted throughout the park should you need a rest or just want to slow down to observe your surroundings.
Beautiful fungi and magnificent giant Pulai trees along the trails but we didn’t encounter any wildlife during our walks.
Two Gazebos were spotted.
♥Verdict: Taman Tugu forest trails unquestionably an ideal training ground for absolute beginners to hiking, kids included. Well done to the authorities for the properly constructed pathways and well-kept park.

Aiyo, there is still room of improvement for me, and I need to workout more and follow a stricter diet. >_<
