Marina Hot Pot @ Bandar Menjalara, Kepong

No Compare No Despair……

After the delightful hotpot dinner at Beauty in the Pot, I craved for hotpot again……

Marina Hot Pot, one of the many hotpot/steamboat restaurants at Bandar Menjalara, Kepong which has been in my to-try list for some times, by the reason of the recommendation from my friend for its pork bone soup base.

The indoor dining area was brightly lit with adequately comfy setting. While the outdoor seating was set on the alley beside the shop as well as walkway at the entrance. Making reservation may be a wise choice, as the restaurant is quite popular choice at the area, especially on weekends.

The sauce counter with basic sauces and condiments such as a few types of chili sauces, sweet sauce, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame sauce, fresh chilies, chopped garlic, spring onions, coriander, shallot oil and fermented bean curd (Fu Yu).

Pork Bone Soup (RM28.00)

Marina Hot Pot provided five options of soup base included their signature Pork Bone Soup, signature Tom Yum (RM7.00), tomato soup (RM18.00), Mala soup (RM18.00) and chicken soup (RM5.00).

The broth looked legit from its appearance – milky with a huge pork bone. However, it didn’t quite live up to our expectation and certainly wouldn’t make it to my list of better tasting pork bone soup (for hot pot). The flavour was subdued and the essential pork bone taste wasn’t as pronounced. I thought it was lacking a little in that heart factor that able to get praises from us.

Value Set (RM49.60 – for 2 pax)

The menu offered set menu for the hot pot ingredients price from RM28 to RM148.80 to cater different groups of diners. Wide variety of hot pot ingredients were available for ala carte order, ranging from assorted sliced meat, meat/fish paste, dumplings, fresh seafood, meat balls, bean curd rolls, bean curds, vegetables, mushrooms, noodles and eggs. Some fried noodles dishes and good selections of snacks and appetizers to complete the menu too.

Pork Belly (RM23.00)

Australian Sliced Lamb (RM26.00)

Pork Balls with Cuttle Fish (RM7.80)

Fried Fish Skin (RM12.00)

The fish skin was overfried rendering hint of bitterness in the flavour. ~>_<~

Complimentary ice cream was offered ala eat-all-you-can style.

Verdict: The price was on the higher side for ala carte order and the portion wasn’t really compatible to the price charged. The set ingredients might priced cheaper that some of the hotpot restaurants at the same territory but again, the portion here was markedly smaller. The main disappointment that evening unquestionably was the pork bone soup that didn’t meet my standard for a good hot pot soup base.

  • Too bad it did not meet with your expectations. I guess your best bet is to go back to the previous one that you enjoyed.

    • PH, Beauty in the Pot is too expensive to visit so frequent lah ~>_<~ Another pork bone soup hotpot that both hubby and I like is Coco Steamboat at Old Klang Road, which is too far for us >_<

  • I think when it comes to hot pot, the ingredients are basically similar everywhere. The differentiation lies in the taste of the soup. P/S: This pork belly I would like…not fatty at all…lol! 😉
