S V Hong Kee Restaurant @ Jalan Sentul, K.L

We needed to run errands at Sentul therefore I took the opportunity to tick off another eating place in my list.

Like any other Dai Chow restaurant out there, S V Hong Kee offers a long list of Chinese stir fried dishes (check out the menu HERE) in their rather shabby shoplot. There are not many tables at indoor because the cooking station takes up big part of the space. The outdoor seating is set under the PVC canvas roof.

What’s so special about S V Hong Kee that attracted me to put it into my to-try list? you may well ask. It’s their signature dish of sizzling plate butter milk noodles which I never saw on any Dai Chow’s menu.

Butter Noodles with Chicken Chop (Small – RM16.00)

The Wonton Mee and the fried chicken chunks were served on a hot iron plate and the butter milk sauce was then poured on it. The butter milk sauce wasn’t thick on consistency with a pleasant creaminess and buttery taste which was not cloying. The fine strands of Wonton Mee were great to absorb the sauce.

The fried chicken chunks were rather dry and unremarkable though.

There are a few fried noodles dishes which I found quite interesting such as Dry Chili Shrimp Paste Yee Mee, Fish Sauce Meehoon and Hong Kong Yee Mee.

Dark Soy Sauce Pork with Egg Fried Rice (Small – RM13.50)

This is another recommendation at SV Hong Kee but it turned out a bit hit-and-miss.

The egg fried rice was flavourful and fluffy, with the “Wok Hei” was distinctively present. However, the dark soy sauce pork topping didn’t turn out to be the “booster” to elevate the delicious-ness of the fried rice. It tasted a little monochromatic – salty. >_< I should have ordered the plain fried rice or any other option in the list, including Nyonya Fried Rice, Asam Fried Rice or Belacan Fried Rice.

Homemade Tofu (Small – RM16.00)

Deep fried to a golden perfection with slightly crisp on the crust, the homemade tofu were well seasoned with a few chopped vegetables to perk up the flavour and texture.

Verdict: I can’t say this was an exceptional lunch for me but I tried a new dish and it was rather enjoyable. Check out this place if you’re around Sentul area.
