The Cafe @ Royal Selangor Visitor Centre

“Let’s go to a new place for brunch tomorrow!”. That’s what Hubby said on one fine Saturday night without giving me any information on our next food hunt. I went to sleep with a Question mark on my mind.

The next morning, it was a lovely sunny day,  Hubby started to drive towards Setapak and I thought to myself what else in Setapak area?? We finally arrived at Royal Selangor Visitor Centre and I thought “What!!?? Are you kidding me my dear? I want food and not to look at pewter….”

We walked pass the sales gallery, a simple setting but exude a classic and elegant vibe, lead by hubby. Soon I realize that there is a Cafe just after the gallery.

Wall of plaques with Royal Selangor employees’ hand prints, a tribute to the craftspeople of Royal Selangor who have worked with the company for at least 5 years and above.

The answer revealed! There is a cafe at the back of the sales gallery and I was pretty impressed by the spacious area of the cafe!

Menu was scribbled on the chalk board on the wall. Choices was quite limited & breakfast is served until 11.00am only.

Pastries and cakes on display and there are good comments on these from what I read from the tips in Foursquare. Regret not getting any that day >.<

I like the soaring high floor-to-ceiling glass panels which allow the natural light penetrate in. The setting was minimalistic with straight forward furniture and I love the flower in the pewter vase placed on every table.

Some comfy leather chairs at the other corner of the cafe overlooking the greenery. I think it could be great sipping your cuppa while reading your favourite book here!

A small pond with big koi fishes.

Arrived slightly later than breakfast hour, hubby opted for the daily special and myself got something from the ala-carte menu.

IMG_4845

Mineral Water (RM 1.50)

IMG_4847

Flat White (RM 7.50)

Decent but not too outstanding.

IMG_4848-horz

Hot Chocolate (RM 8.00)

Frothy and dense .

IMG_4850

Pumpkin Soup (RM 7.50)

The pumpkin soup was thick and creamy laced with natural sweetness from the pumpkin itself, served with 2 pieces of toasted ciabatta.

IMG_4853

Creamy Smoked Chicken Spaghetti (RM 17.00)

The pasta was drenched with delicious creamy sauce topped with generous amount of smoked chicken pieces but I hope there will be more sauce given.

Sunday Daily Special ~ Chicken Burger (RM 14.50)

Served aside with bed of greens dressed with sesame sauce which I really appreciate since I don’t like mayonnaise for my salad & also generous serving of fries.

IMG_4860

The tall stack of burger consisted of common ingredients of chicken patty, tomato, lettuce, mayonnaise (=.=”) and chili sauce.  Nothing really impressive as the chicken patty was too finely minced for my liking.

The world’s largest pewter tankard, recognised by the Guinness Book of Records, was made by Royal Selangor in 1985 to commemorate its centenary.

A good cam-whore spot!

Verdict: While the food was nothing to rave about, but the tranquility and the laid-back ambiance definitely justify a revisit!
